Overview

Introduced in Toni Aleo's Bellevue Bullies Series, it's the Sinclair brothers' big sister's turn to find love in the next installment of the New York Times and USA Today best-selling series, the Assassins.

Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.

She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She's gotten to the point that she's okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.
Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he'd never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn't ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn't enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love, and Lucy and Angie were just that.

Benji and Lucy were just two lost souls.
Floating through life with no purpose.
But finding each other gave them direction, a chance at a future.

And that had them both Rushing the Goal to be together.

I thought Shea Adler was the best hero until I read Benji Paxton's story...too close to call. Phenomenal story that many single mothers can relate to and Benji is the stepfather of their dreams. Beautiful story, beautiful family and definitely heartwarming. Plus, Angie is a little doll! Thanks Ms. Aleo for such an inspiring book.

I have liked the Nashville Assassins Series from the start, as well as the spin off series Bellevue Bullies. Lucy Sinclair made her first appearance in Book One of the Bellevue Bullies, Boarded by Love, and her character continued to grow throughout the Series. I have to say I think this is Toni Aleo’s best work yet. She took me on a journey of so many feels in this story. I laughed out loud. I cried. I was angry. I was frustrated. I felt joy. I felt hopeful. This is a true love story from beginning to end. Rushing The Goal dealt with so many issues! Alcoholism, domestic violence, bullying by a spouse and parent, feeling of helplessness in situations, self doubt in parenting, self esteem issues, the pain of failing at marriage and the challenges of co-parenting with a parent that has their own agenda. Guilt and self doubt in being able to love again after the loss of who you thought was your soul mate and your precious child. I felt the deep and abiding love and care that Benji gave to Lucy and her seven year old daughter, Angie. Lucy Sinclair is a strong and driven woman. After her divorce she went back to school and got her interior design degree and started a very successful business. She has been divorced seven years and still doesn’t date because she doesn’t want to introduce someone to Angie and then have them walk away. Lucy is not only dealing with the betrayal of her cheating ex-husband, but her beloved father, who has turned his back on his family for the other woman. This has made Lucy a jealous and bitter woman that no longer smiles unless it has to do with Angie. She is jealous of her sibling’s happy marriages and even of her own mother who has found love again. Even through her trials and tribulations, Lucy loves her family fiercely and they are all up in each other’s business (including her sisters-in-law) and have such a sarcastic loving banter. Then she meets Benjamin Paxton, of the Nashville Assassins and her brother’s teammate and everything changes. Benjamin (Benji) Paxton changes not only Lucy’s but Angie’s world! I want to sing Salt-N-Pepa’s song Whatta Man for Benji Paxton! He is amazing. He is nerdy, sweet and extremely sexy. He is patient and thoughtful. He understands Lucy like no one else can and he is her rock. When he holds Lucy, her world is brought to right! He fell in love with Angie before he fell in love with Lucy and treats Angie like she was his own child. This man is so caring and has a way of steering Lucy in the right direction and giving her the support she needs. I highly recommend this beautiful love story that deals with so much! Thank you Toni for a wonderful book, I absolutely loved it. ARC provided by author for an honest review.

Toni Aleo, you did not disappoint, you have another Goal on your hands. Lucy Sinclair has had it tough, she has spent the last seven years raising her daughter and dealing with her crazy ex-husband. She moved out of her mother's house and started her own business so she can give her daughter a better life. Lucy doesn't have time for men in her life. Benji Paxton has had it rough, a recovering alcoholic still living with the demons of his past. For the last twelve years he has kept to himself but now he's ready to move on and try to be happy again. Sparks fly when they meet at Angie's hockey practice. Lucy wants nothing to do him, but Benji won't let Lucy's snarky attitude discourage his attempts at getting her to give him a chance. Will their pasts and Lucy's ex-husband get in the way of a happily ever after? This book is a roller coaster ride of emotions. You fall in love with the characters right from the beginning. Lucy is a hard person to get to she can start a fight with an empty room (love that line), Benji just knows what he wants and nothing is going to stop him from getting it, not even Lucy. Angie is an adorable firecracker, she is funny and gut wrenching at times. The Sinclair bothers are hysterical (If You haven't met and fallen in love with them from The Bellevue Bullies Series you're missing out) and their mother Autumn is a hoot. I couldn't wait to read this book and couldn't put it down. Now that I'm done with it, I want more. Thank you for this wonderful book. I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Every time Toni Aleo adds to the Assassins series I think that she can't possibly improve on the book before, and really Overtime was one of the most emotionally charged books from her yet, so when I say that RUSHING THE GOAL just exceeded my every expectation I do so honestly. Everything about Benji and Lucy was just right. The right people at the right time in all the right ways. Lucy Sinclair has been fascinating me since she came onto the scene in Boarded by Love, and I am so glad that she's finally getting her time in the spotlight! Between her and her adorable daughter Angie, there is so much sass, snark and independence! Lucy wants to do it all on her own; though she accepts some help from her family she never wants to be seen as helpless. She's had some really bad luck in her past in the form of the ex-husband from hell and it's easy to see why Lucy stays away from men and relationships. She wants the same happiness that her brothers and mom have found, but she just doesn't believe that she can have it because she doesn't trust anyone easily. Benji Paxton may have just become my favorite Assassin ever in so many ways!! We met him in Overtime and he broke my heart with his backstory. He wants what he sees his friends and teammates having, a family; but at the same time he's not sure that he deserves it after losing his over a decade ago. When Benji fills in for Jayden Sinclair in helping coach his neices' hockey team, he finds a possibility at his future in Lucy, even if she hates him in the beginning. Watching Benji convince Lucy they belong together was a thing of beauty. Benji teaching Lucy that he is good for her and that she can be happy, and that it is okay to trust in a man again without losing her ability to care for herself or her child. The story was also about Benji coming to terms with his past and believing that he can have the forever family he thought he'd never deserve. He, Lucy and Angie just blew me away! So many emotions in this story, both from each of their pasts as well as the things they confront on the road to happiness. Toni Aleo's storytelling just continues to give me all the feels and makes me love this group do people more and more with each book! Some of my favorite things: Lucy's brothers (Jude, Jayden and Jace). So funny and loyal. They are ridiculous at how they both pick at each other but also how they hold each other up. Angie is in a category all of her own! This kid is smart, intuitive and so funny! The Assassins crew. Love all the looks at our favorite Assassins players and wives!! Mark Sinclair. I can't believe that I'm actually calling him a favorite thing, bc let's face it he has not endeared himself in the past (if you haven't read the Bellevue Bullies, well here's where you need to). But here in this book, the way he steps up for Lucy and Angie? Man oh man, I actually liked him and hope that he's able to repair his relationships w/his family. "...it's easier to hide from the fear of rejection and pain than to put yourself out there and try." "I think you need a hug." "Yeah, I think I do." "You're so worried about failing everyone else that you don't think about yourself." "You also cover your real feelings with sass. It's pretty funny to watch." "I swear, you are impossible. Why are you rushing this? Just let it ride." L "Cause it's what I do. I rush the goal to score. You are the ultimate goal, and I want to score." B "If he couldn't love her through the hard times, why

Lucy Sinclair has been living in a safe little bubble for the last few years and has made certain that no one will ever get close enough to hurt her again by using a hostile attitude towards any one who approaches her. After enduring a crappy marriage, and abuse at the hands of her ex-husband she decided the day she was finally free that she would never give herself to another man again. He took everything from her to the point that she feels she has nothing left to give, and still continues to make her life a living hell. Her main focus now is her daughter and making sure she provides the best environment she can for her to grow up in, no matter the cost, even if it means sacrificing her own chance at happiness again. Her family is her support system, and her brother's have stepped up and provided the fatherly figure in her daughter's life, that she desperately needs, which has made her daughter want to follow in their footsteps and try her hand at hockey too. So, she reluctantly signs her daughter up for hockey, with the promise that her brother would be their to help her and look after her, but when something comes up and her brother can't make it to practice he sends his teammate Benji Paxton to be his fill in for the day. The minute that Lucy finds out what her brother has done she is ready to grab her daughter and run, but Benji sneaks under her radar and convinces her to give him at shot... Benji Paxton has spent years trying to right the wrongs of his past and find some semblance of a normal life, and he is slowly making progress. But it's turned him into somewhat of a recluse, he's tried dating, but he has yet to find someone who wants to stick around after he tells them about his past. All of his teammates are getting married and having families and he would love nothing more than to have a second chance at that kind of a life, but the right woman just hasn't come along. When his teammate asks him to fill in for him at his nieces hockey practice, he jumps at the chance to do something productive for the day, and get himself out of the house. What he doesn't expect is to find is though, is the woman he has been waiting for all this time, one look at Lucy Sinclair and he knows she is the one he has been waiting for all these years. Her quirky daughter immediately steals his heart, and he'd love nothing more than having a chance to win her mother's heart, but Lucy just isn't interested... This was my first time reading something from this author, and I have to say that her writing totally took me by surprise, and instantly made me regret not reading something by her until now... she completely won me over with this beautifully written story, and I look forward to devouring more of her books in the VERY near future!! Barely a paragraph into it and I was completely consumed, and left with the insatiable urge for more!! Lucy and Benji pulled me into their world and had me completely entranced by every spoken word. It was evident from the very beginning that these two were definitely a match made in literary heaven, the intense chemistry they shared could be felt from their first encounter, and continued to burn intently until the very end. I highly recommend you give this read a try, it is one of those stories that will monopolize your every thought, steal the breath from your lungs, and linger with you long after the last page has been turned! Deserves 10 Stars.... I have read and enjoyed all of the books in this series but I think this is my favorite... Lucy Sinclair has had a tough life.. She married the wrong guy, had a baby and suffered his emotional and finally physical abuse until she left... Her father left his family for a long time girlfriend and Lucy was a daddy's girl... She did not trust or want anything to do with men... Here comes Benji, a pro hockey player with his own heavy baggage and after a tentative beginning both Lucy and 7 yr old Angie fell in love with him... Ex makes Lucy's and Angie's lives miserable and Ex now wants sole custody of Angie.. Lucy's Dad re-enters the picture as her lawyer and opens many old wounds... This is an emotional roller coaster of a book but it is not predictable and as this couple and little girl wind their way through trouble and heartache you can't help but be drawn in... I did not see the ending coming... It was a total surprise and turned into a wonderful HEA.. Highly recommend this book...

http://www.cocktailsandbooks.com I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books. RUSHING THE GOAL is a touching story about Lucy Sinclair and Benji Paxton. Benji is a professional hockey player and he loves playing for the Assassins, but sadly, the rest of his life is empty. Benji is a nice guy who carries a lot of guilt and he stole my heart with his kindness and vulnerability. Benji has been waiting for love for a long time and as soon as he meets Lucy, he knows he has found the woman of his dreams. He likes Lucy and let's her know his feelings right from the start. Lucy is a single mother working hard as an interior designer to support her daughter and herself. She is independent and insists on doing everything herself and will not let anyone help her. I admired Lucy’s willingness to sacrifice so much for her daughter. However, Lucy has trust issues with men because her ex-husband treated her badly. Benji doesn't let Lucy’s abrasive attitude intimidate him. Benji understands Lucy is hardened and closed off due to her bad luck and tough life and he doesn't take her snarky remarks seriously. Sweet, nerdy Benji is the perfect guy for Lucy. He is goofy and wears his heart on his sleeve. He doesn't need to be in control and isn't a macho guy. He never expects more from Lucy than she is willing to give and he doesn't try to change her. Benji is patient and loving with Lucy and he is also wonderful with her daughter. I love stories about hockey players and have enjoyed all of the stories Toni Aleo has written about the Assassins hockey team. This is the eighth book in the Assassins series and each one is a standalone. Although I would recommend starting from the beginning of this series because there are recurring characters from each story. There are many entertained secondary characters including Lucy’s big, loving, zany family and the guys on the Assassin's team and their spouses. Although the guys on the team joke around and give each other a hard time, they are like family and will do anything for each other.

I am a big fan of the Assassins Series. I love a good hockey story!! Toni Aleo didn't disappoint with Lucy & Benji! Lucas Brooks has had my heart through this whole series, but I think Benji has stolen it! Lucy Sinclair hasn't had it easy. She is a single mom struggling to support her daughter. She went through a bitter divorce, and still her ex lives to torment her. She was betrayed by her ex, she was betrayed by her dad, so love is the furthest thing from her mind. She has two focuses in life... Be the best mom to Angie she can be, and grow her business. She doesn't have the time or desire for a man right now. Benji Paxton is ok just being with himself. He's not quite sure he deserves to be happy. He once had it all... A family, wife, & daughter. But he made mistakes in his past and lost them to a tragic accident. He has worked hard to become a better person, and he has, but the guilt is still there. He wants to move on and be happy, but he doesn't know how. When Lucy & Benji meet at Angie's hockey practice, Benji sees these two beautiful girls who just might help heal his heart and move on. Lucy isn't having it. She might think Benji is super hot, and a little nerdy, but all men break your heart, and she just can't do that again. While everyone sees Lucy as a hard and mean, Benji sees more. He sees someone who has been hurt and has puts up walls to keep it from happening again. Benji is determined to break down those walls. " Every time you try to fight what's happening between us, it only makes me want to fight you harder for you. Just FYI, I'm a scrapper. I will win." He is understanding and patient with Lucy. Lucy can't resist Benji against her better judgement. But when her ex threatens everything they've slowly built, Lucy won't let Benji get hurt. Her only choice is to walk away. She should have known nothing good could happen to her. Benji has other ideas, he won't let that happen. "Cause it's what I do. I rush the goal to score. You are the ultimate goal, and I want to score."

I mean way to pull at my heart strings......I was nearly having an anxiety attack every other page.......but in a good way! I love love love Benji. First I love a Hockey book, then next I love when it mentions Chicago (born and raised) and third I love when they mention the Chicago Blackhawks ( Stanley cup champs and the BEST TEAM in the NHL) anyway, loved this series to pieces. Lucy was a smart mouth, do it yourself, strong, sassy, sexy, lady. Benji was just the sweetest, I mean I don't even know what to say, I fell hard for him, he is the ideal man!!!!! I mean as sexy as sin, and he plays hockey, and he is a dirty talker who knows hot to give it to him woman. This was a book I was truly sad to finish because I could have kept reading for another week or so......lol. Ohhhh the fact that Benji was like a super hot NERD really do did it for me ;)
