I used this book as one of two textbooks for a college class on Russian History. I recently reread it in preparation to read a much larger, more detailed history of Russia, and that is exactly what this book is good for: a short history, as it says. It gives a reasonable overview of the major points in Russian history and is a great book for those who wish to have a general knowledge of Russia. That being said, do not read this book hoping for a detailed account of Peter the Great or fantastic insight into the mind of Stalin or Lenin, as that is not what the intention of this book is. Read on, history lovers.
