Russia under the Old Regime: Second Editionby Richard Pipes
From his vantage point at Harvard, Professor Richard Pipes sees in Russia's history a sweeping epic that helps us better

From his vantage point at Harvard, Professor Richard Pipes sees in Russia's history a sweeping epic that helps us better understand the Russia of today.

If you are interested in Russian history before the twentieth century, this is the book to get. It's only 300 some pages, but somehow it compresses an incredible amount of information in it. Very comprehensive. Very detailed. Very well written.
