Decent but Not Great Collection of Short Russian Works

As I have always been a fan of Russian composers, I was looking forward to this CD, but I was a bit disappointed in collection. A few of the pieces stand out, such as Shostakovich's Festive Overture, but most of the selections, even by wonderful artist like Prokofiev, just didn't do that much for me. The selections weren't bad, they just were not the best Russia has to offer. In addition, this is my second experience with a Russian orchestra, and it seems the production quality just isn't as good as we're used to. The equalization just doesn't seem right, and there seems to be a hollow kind of feel that you might get with a live recording. Overall, this album isn't bad, but I think a better collection of works could have been found.
