Overview

Recorded during Rusted Root's Welcome to My Party tour in 2003, this double-disc presents seven of that album's 11 cuts, as well as 15 others in fine, raw, loose-groove, spunky form. The material from the aforementioned album comes off far better in this setting; the inherent nocturnal funk slithers and pop and polyrhythmic invention and a slippery, driving bass throb guiding the band into the backbone slipping ether. In these songs, one segues into another -- or gives the appearance of doing so -- as "Welcome to My Party" cascades into Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," and shapeshifts into "Cat Turned Blue" from 1994's When I Woke seamlessly, funky insistence intact, then comes back to the present with "Women Got My Money," that feels informed by Dr. John's "I Walk on Gilded Splinters" in concert, while pumping the gritty soul of "Weave" into the cover of Neil Young's "Powderfinger." This is a stunner; in the grain of Michael Glabicki's voice one can hear the rambling ghost of the Gun Club's Jeffrey Lee Pierce if he were backed by the souled-out excellence of RR's Liz Berlin and Jenn Wertz. Disc two kicks off with a beautiful reading of "Send Me on My Way," that is followed with the massive percussion workout "Ecstatic Drums," which segues into a stunning version of "Ecstasy." In other words, there's no let up in quality. There's the nocturnal voodoo crawl of "Food & Creative Love," the raucous, celebratory "Cruel Sun," the moving acoustic guitar shimmer in "Scattered," and the trance-like snake dance orgy of "Back to the Earth" that closes the set, just to name a few. Rusted Root takes a lot of unnecessary critical crap for their alterna-tribe appearance, but the bottom line is that this band throws down musically and has continued to grow and explore. The evidence of that is right here.

This is a great cd. I spent a whole week listening to the new tracks ecstatic drums and jack keroauck while driving to school. It would have been nice if this was a full concert instead of select songs, but it is still an excellent collection to anybody's music library. there is great energy and the recording sounds great.

Ive been waiting for this CD for a long time and finally its here. As a collector of Root shows it is outstanding to finally have a good collection of perfect sounding songs. I would highly recomend this CD to even the casual root fan as you are sure to recognize some of their best hits here. The world needs more bands like Rusted Root. Buy this CD as a gift for the holidays and help get America's kids off the brainless marketing television that is MTV.

eh. it was alrite, I'd have prefered if it was an entire concert instead of songs from misc. shows, though...

This album has been long overdue. I have been a Rusted Root fan since 94 and I have been waiting for a full live album since. There is no other band that jams live like Rusted Root. If you have never seen them live then you definitely need to get this album. If you have seen them and don't have it yet, what are you waiting for? This is some of the best 2 hours of music money can buy.

Rusted Root's music is filled with beauty and unique beats, but nothing compares to hearing them LIVE. You can really feel what it's like to see them up close. They are a special band with unique talent and I'm SO GLAD they released this album!

I've had this album since Novemeber and I still love it. I've seen them live a lot and it captures how good they are live, as well as studio. I reccomend for all ages, little ones like to bounce around to Rusted Root as well, and no explicit lyrics, just good music!

For those of you unfortunate folk out there who have not yet experienced Rusted Root's live concert, this cd is especially for you. The cd effectively captures their amazing live show. The cd is very solid with old and new "hits". Fans have been asking for a cd of this kind from them for years now and at last they put one out. This band is tireless in their efforts onstage, and you can tell on this cd. All of the members are amazing musicians. This cd is a must have for any fan or for anyone who loves live music. Pick it up today!

Rusted Root's new album "Live" is one of the best live albums released in the past few years. While it doesn't play a show in its entirety, but rather selects various tracks from a number of shows, each entry on the CD reflects the high energy Rusted Root is known for in their live shows. Personally, the first time I heard this double-disk set I felt transported to the last show I saw, at the famed 1st Avenue music venue in Mpls., MN. This album covers all of my favorite staples from the early albums, including "Send me on my way", "Ecstasy", and "Back to the Earth", but it also includes a fantastic drum "solo". Favorite songs of mine on the 2-disks include "Jack Kerouac" and "Welcome to my party", which is much stronger emotionally than the album version. This album is a definite must for any RR fan, and fans of live album's.

This 2-disc album is definitely a must buy for any Root fan. It captures their live performance very well. Went to a couple shows this spring('05) and they were amazing at each show. If you don't have this cd, then you need to pick it up now!

Rusted Root Live captures Rusted Root at its best, a jam band. The sound on this cd set is awesome. One of the better Live cd's I have heard. 22 tracks spanning Rusted Root's entire existing, a wonderful cover of Niel Young's Powderfinger, and a bit of Dylan's All Along the watchtower can also be discovered here, along with a surprise bit of Dylan's All along the watchtower. An excellent drum solo, and an exciting mix of genres, textures, and songs.
