Overview

Ryan Hunter kissed more girls than he cares to remember. But the only one he ever wanted is in love with his best friend.

Watching Liza Matthews’ obsession with Tony Mitchell is a torture Ryan conceals from everyone. Until after a five-week soccer camp, where Tony gets involved with someone else, things suddenly take a different turn. Ryan knows if he doesn’t make a move now and grab his chance, he might never get another.

Asked by Tony to distract Liza, Ryan is only too happy. He subtly seduces her first into his soccer team and later on to his party. He does all in his power to make her see that he’s not just an insufferable playboy but a guy who really cares about her. Some one-on-one soccer training, a passionate kiss—things seem to be going the way he wants. Except Ryan didn’t reckon on his best friend showing up at the worst possible moment and destroying everything…

Meet the Author

The quick-and-dirty:I’m a cool girl with a passion for writing. The genres you’ll find me hanging out at are contemporary and paranormal YA, but I’m also snooping into some adult paranormal right now. All of them romances…of course. The nitty-gritty:I’m an Austrian lass—totally uncomplicated and up to anything fun.I grew up in Vienna, not by free will but because my parents decided to move there when I was only 4 years old. I. Hated. The. City. Everything about it. So right after graduation I moved back to Upper Austria, where I settled down with a nice husband and an awesome laptop.I’ve been a storyteller all my life. Already in kindergarten, I came up with the most exotic fantasies and tales. My teacher would call me a liar. I call it the cornerstone of my writing career.People always told me you can’t make a living with being an author. So when my first novella PLAY WITH ME came out and shot straight to the stars within the first week, I was totally dumbstruck. Took me a while to realize what was happening, LOL.And the personal stuff:At the (awesome) age of seventeen, I met the love of my life. But he was a playboy, and I was so not going to be his next trophy. It took him another four years of fighting for me until I finally decided to give that “couple-thing” with him a shot. I’m now married to this man. ;-)We have an eleven-year-old son, and together we travel a lot…although I sometimes wish the trips were shorter because I can’t wait to get back to my laptop and my many stories. Unless we’re in Disneyland. No stress to go home then…If you still want to know more about me, my FAQ page is the right address for you. ;-)pipershelly.com/faq/

These books are both very quick reads.  I read Play With Me first and think that is a good order to read them in.

Play With Me tells Liza's side of what happens between her, Tony and Ryan.  Tony has been her best friend forever and she has herself convinced that she is in love with him.  She is just waiting for Tony to realize it.  Unfortunately, he comes back from soccer camp with eyes for another girl.  We get to see all the events from Liza's POV.  She closes her eyes to the fact that Tony might be interested in someone else, so when he point blank tells her, it is quite a shock.  However, since she has been enjoying the attention of Ryan Hunter, it makes you wonder whether or not she was as clueless as she let on.  Things come to a head though when Tony lets it slip in front of her that he "asked" Ryan to spend time with her to "distract" her.

In Ryan Hunter we get to see the same story line from Ryan's POV.  It was fun to see a guy vulnerable and upset over losing out on a girl and misunderstandings that happen.  Normally you only see that from a girl's side.  I liked seeing the story from Ryan's POV after having read Liza's side because then I knew what she was feeling as I learned what he was feeling as well.  Did that make sense?  It is hard to tell you much more without spilling the beans on how the story ends.  If you are worried that you might be bored reading essentially the same story again, don't be.  I found it to be a lot of fun and enjoyed reading all the way to the end.

    Great Story

Loved the hot romance without the overly graphic sex. Interesting and emotional. I loved reading the story from both Liza and Ryan's point of view.

Ok, I actually really, really liked this story.  Even though it’s pretty much the same plot as the first, because it’s the same events just from a different point of view, it’s still very fresh and even more compelling.  I thought I’d like the first one better because it’s from a girl’s point of view and this is from a guy’s, but I felt more connected to Ryan in this book and was up until two in the morning unable to get enough.  I was in tears a couple times in this book, which is impressive given that I expected to relate better to Liza than Ryan.

Ryan’s goofy in love with Liza, and while I hate his well-deserved reputation, I do like how he treats Liza and his whole outlook for them as a couple.  He’s determined and going all in to get what he wants.  I enjoyed seeing Liza through Ryan’s eyes more than her own, despite thinking that Liza might be a little whiny.  Ryan’s story is also considerably more in depth as a lot of the drama actually comes from his and Tony’s side and Liza just gets caught in it all.  The ending goes further than book one and is still very sweet, even if it might be a little cheesy.

I will say that since this one is from a guy’s point of view and he’s got a different level of experience and is a year older than Liza, it’s got more language and is borderline NA in content (though there’s no sex).  My only real complaint, despite how realistic it probably was, is that Ryan often mentioned how he wanted to bed Liza which kind of took away a little bit from the actual emotion behind his attraction.

Ryan Hunter surpasses its predecessor in its emotional impact and excitement.  It will have you hanging on every word as you laugh and cry with the characters.  This is a pretty awesome story about love, friendship, and growing up.  It’s a pretty awesome read!

The fun thing about these stories is that they are the same story told from two different points of view.  And I gotta say, they are really good YA! A lot of what is written and out there right now is NA or borderline on NA.  This isn’t.  It really is about two teenagers and dealing with teenage issues, and it really was fun to read.

Ryan has been in love with Liza for a while, but Liza has only ever had eyes for their mutual best friend Tony.  But when Tony comes back from soccer camp dating another girl, Ryan decides to use it to his advantage. Plus, Tony asks Ryan to help distract Liza for him so he can spend some time with his new girlfriend.

Ryan has only ever had things come relatively easily to him.  So Liza is a bit of a challenge, but Ryan is about to find that she is a challenge worth fighting for. Plus, is Tony really willing to give up his best friend?

I have to tell you, these books were super sweet and so much fun to read! They were also super fast reads and great stories. I fell in love with Ryan from the get go and was cheering him on all along. He is among one of my favorite characters!
