Overview

The Eagles have two talented defensive linemen who tackle the game of football in opposite ways. Mike Bravis outmuscles his opponents, while Trenton Kubrick prefers to outsmart them. The two defensive stars may have different playstyles, but the outcome is always the same: they get the sacks while their opponents get embarrassed. But when Jared Michaels, the best offensive lineman in the league, comes to town, he makes it obvious that Trenton and Mike will have to pool their talents to stop the Bandits' all-star aerial assault.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Raina Sedore
The Eagles have a new opponent. Jared Michaels, the fifteen-year-old offensive lineman for the Bandits, is known to be the biggest and strongest athlete playing his position in the state. Mike, age fourteen, and Trenton, age fifteen, are starting and backup defensive linemen for the Eagles, and it is their job to stop Jared Michaels. In keeping with its role as part of the "Sports Illustrated Kids Graphic Novels" series, this volume is packaged like a magazine, with catchy section headings like "Sports Zone Postgame Recap" and "Feature Presentation." The content is designed to attract upper elementary and middle school readers, but the reading level is low, making this an ideal "high-low" title for middle grade reluctant readers. This story addresses how important strategy can be in sports—that it is not always a good idea to rely purely on physical prowess in order to defeat an opponent. There is a glossary in the back which primarily focuses on sports terminology. For young football fans, this story is sure to be a winner. Reviewer: Raina Sedore
