A new hell had been unleashed on earth and the fight for survival had just begun.

Sadie Walker is one of the survivors in this new world. Living in north Seattle behind barrier that keep the living in and the dead out, she trying to get back to a normal life, while raising her eight-year-old nephew, if anyone even knows what “normal” is anymore.  Then everything goes sideways when Shane is kidnapped by a group of black market thieves and they bring down a crucial barrier in the city while trying to escape, and flood the city with the walking dead. After rescuing her nephew, Sadie and Shane escape Seattle on the last remaining boat, along with other survivors. However, now they must face the complete chaos of a world filled with flesh eating zombies and humans who are playing with a whole new rule book when it comes to survival in their journey to find a new place that they can call home.

    A quick & good read

I hope Madeleine Roux keeps writing; her work is more reality based with its language & the behavior of the characters I think. Too many times you read something where you can pretty much guess what the entire conversation is going to be but not with her work. She will sometimes let you know that the character is thinking about kissing or doing something crazy, but like those of us in the real world we tend to clam up. It’s never picture perfect but you keep holding your breath waiting for the moment of it to come along.

Very compelling characters all the way around for me. Also there aren't many zombie books are centered around a girl & usually when they are they are totally invincible & capable of anything. For me, I always like having a heroine but really hate those books where the girl is too strong/strong-headed. Sadie is fueled by desire to survive with her nephew and she does feel pain. All of the characters are down to earth realistic in that way, you cling to their life because you can actually picture these people sitting right across from you and just chatting. That said, it wasn’t a boohooer for me which I very much appreciate. Shock, fear , empathy, loss, anger & hope all there but the book moves so quickly that you can’t stop to feel bad at any point, you just keep surviving with them. Like I said this was a quick & good read for me.
