I first read this book in 2000. Just recently, read it again.

It's a great read. Those with an imagination will enjoy this book. Anyone who wishes the church establishment could be knocked around a little . . . will love this book. Peter's simple faith and simple recollections of his time with his Master are priceless. I yearn for that simplicity.

I've tried to locate more info about Mark Bailey and haven't been successful. Apparently, this is his only published work. I wish I

Fascinating book--- and in the same vein as Dan Brown's mysteries (The Da Vinci Code, etc.) that also offer a critique of institutionalized religion. The premise is interesting (and certainly feasible) and the characters are engaging full-bodied creations. A thought-provoking, ultimately uplifting read.

I read this book in the original paperback format and enjoyed it. That same paperback copy has been read by 2 other people who also enjoyed the story. It is well written and reminds me somewhat of Dan Brown's style.

The "science" aspect is explained in a plausible manner and the characters are engaging. I enjoyed the exploration/critique into organized religion, especially since it is entirely plausible that Peter would recollect simpler times.

***** Fast-paced, thought-provoking thriller. Saint is that rare thriller that gives a shot of adrenaline to the brain as well as the heart. The sheer velocity of the story keeps you turning the pages while the book's reflections on science, orthodoxy and the meaning of faith make you pause. Bailey is unafraid of the big topics. Saint is a must read for those who enjoy traveling through time and across continents, and rethinking not only their own assumptions but the course of history.

Meet the Author

You know a Mark Roger Bailey novel by its compelling 'what if' concept, infectious confidence, and characters who stay with you forever. Haunting, thought provoking and cinematic describe his award-winning work. His novels, SAINT and BEYOND THESE WOODS, are such tales.

His first novel, RUNNING IN THE WOODS, secured a New York agent and praise from acquiring editors, but not a publishing contract.

Following Emmy-winning work in television and advertising, he formed MBCI to develop international creative projects including television coverage of yachtsman Dennis Conner's successful Stars & Stripes America's Cup campaign to win the Cup back from Australia. He went on to write, produce and direct projects in Australia, England, Italy, the Vatican, Switzerland and Ireland researching stories that captured his imagination. He also worked as a creative strategist and writer at Sony Pictures Entertainment and Columbia TriStar Home Video, marketing popular movies Men in Black, Legends of the Fall, A Few Good Men, Das Boot, Jerry Maguire and others.

He conceived his next novel, SAINT, where the story begins, on the cliffs at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. Behind him, the world-famous Salk Institute and biomedical research labs; before him, the vast blue Pacific. The potential for unlocking the keys to creation, memory and consciousness compelled him to distraction. He wrote the outline and pitch in three days. Writing the novel took two years, including a rare visit to the 2,000 year-old city of the dead deep beneath St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, where the story reaches its climax.

In BEYOND THESE WOODS Bailey explores the irreconcilable values that drive some men to destroy what Nature has taken millions of years to evolve, what drives others to destroy human life in defense of Nature, and what drives one flawed yet ultimately pragmatic woman to take a stand that will end the cycle of violence.

Recently, he managed the launch of actor and environmentalist Robert Redford's Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability.

He writes every day and serves as vice president of communications, marketing and public relations at one of the most selective liberal arts colleges in the United States. He and his wife live in California.
