sally boy by p. vincent demartino

One of the most compelling stories out there today. Extremely colorful. Its just one of those books you pick up and cant put down. p.vincent demartino has a flare about him. I am not a big fan of mobster stories but I have to say this is the best one I ve ever read. I felt like I was in the story with the characters. Dont miss out on this one...its a winner!

    Wow...

If you like intensity, this is it! Thoroughly enjoyed the book. As a die hard "Sopranos" fan, I couldn't put the book down. I could have done without the Vietnam parts, but this of course told a lot about the main character's life. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for a book club setting, but if you like Mafia-type stories, then this is for you.

Highly recommend...one of the best novels I've ever read!

If you liked the Godfather or Goodfellas this book will literally blow you away! Honestly, I never expected such a profound psychological experience from this particular subject matter. The plot line is extraordinary and the ending will leave you speechless. Moreover, the sex scenes were as provocative as any I've ever read. If you're looking for an exceptional literary journey, this is it!

    A Must Read...Pure Literary Genius!!!

I'm sitting here reflecting on all the books I've read and I can't for the life of me think of one more compelling then "Sally Boy!" Vincent DeMartino is a very rare talent. I found myself unable to put the book down. The character development and plot lines are superb. However, I must confess that I found the steamy sex scenes and the vivid descriptions exhilarating. If anyone doesn't love this book, they just don't understand extraordinary writing.

Excellent Story - Would make a great movie!

I recently stumbled across this book online and I must say this was a great find. I love stories and movies about the mob and mob life. I find it very interesting. This book transports you into the life and reality of the mob. Most importantly it is a first hand account of these events and how they went down. The words paint a perfect picture of every scene. If there are any producers out there this book MUST be made into a movie!

Hey, Are You Kidding Me...Are You Kidding Me?

I grew up in the "life" in Brooklyn and I can tell you that this is the most accurate portrayal of the mob I've ever read. This is exactly how these sociopaths talk and act. As far as the "vulgarity," I feel the author was too lenient in his use. I've seen "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas" at least a hundred times, "Sally Boy" is better than both of them. This story is so incredible, I can't believe they haven't made it into a movie yet. I'll be the first one to buy a ticket. "Are you kidding me," you must be the biggest jerkoff on the planet not to see that this book is off the hook.

    SUPERBLY WRITTEN!

I love the fact that there were so many brilliantly hidden elements to this story. If you look closely at the novel cover you can see a faint cross. No doubt representative of the overarching religious element that runs through the story. Each parable was perfectly placed within the book. The plot and subplots were complex. Character development was right on. I got chills when Sal removed the crucifix his grandmother had given him and placed it in his father's hand. This undoubtedly symbolized Sal's breaking with any religious or familial hold left on him. Ultimately resulting in Sal's disturbing and bloody attack on the Mirragio crime family. With an ending that will leave you speechless, this novel is definitely a classic.

    Truly Classic Literature

Having read all the reviews of this novel, I can only conclude that very few people actually understood the complexity of this work. First of all, "Sally Boy" ISN'T about the MOB, or the MAFIA at all. While organized crime is one element of the story, Sally Boy chronicles the protagonist's struggle to "OVERCOME." While it would be quite simple for me to cite numerous examples of the following literary devices, I prefer that my students do the work for themselves. (IE) CONFLICT - is a concept in literary studies that seeks to analyze plots by finding their driving sources of conflict. MAN v MAN, MAN v SELF, MAN v SOCIETY, MAN v DESTINY, etc. ALLEGORY - narrative form in which the characters are representative of some larger humanistic trait and attempt to convey a profound lesson or higher meaning to life. FORESHADOWING - when the writer clues the reader in to something that will eventually occur in the story, either explicit (obvious) or implied (disguised). IMAGERY - the author's attempt to create a mental image in the mind of the reader. SYMBOLISM - when an object is meant to be representative of something or an idea greater than the object itself. STRUCTURE - the way the author arranges the plot of a story. Now that you have a basic understanding of literary analysis, go back and reread the story. If you do, I am sure that you will give this work what it truly deserves, 5 STARS.

    Pass it by

I did not find this well written. I do not even think this so called "author" even took a writing class. The book states the author is an "accomplished screenwriter, poet and novelist" Based on the reviews I was looking forward to reading this book. After chapter 10 I tossed it into my fireplace rather than waste another log. I feel that the reviews were written to promote sales. I guess "Are you kidding me" was correct! The best part of this book was seeing it burn.

    Not worth reading.

In no way is this pure genius. It's poorly written. No publisher thought it was worth their time. This is why it was self published. To compare this so called writer to Martin Scorsese is hilarious. I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. This Demartino guy & his friend who wrote reviews are delusional if they thinks this is going to be put into a movie. I agree with "are you kidding me." Waste of money and time. This is the same old want to be mob book by someone who thinks they can write.

    Are you kidding me?

I find the book starts off ok then goes downhill fast after the first few chapters. I did finish it hoping it could get better. It didn't! I find the "author" very vulgar. Every line is "F" this and "F" that. Today anyone can self publish a book and call themself an author. It doesn't make it true. To compare this to "The God Father" Soprano's or Goodfella's is a real joke. That review was probably written from a family member. Save your money it's not worth buying. Put your pen down Vin and go back to waiting tables. Your a better waiter then want to be author.

If you read all the reviews there is a response to "are you

If you read all the reviews there is a response to "are you kidding me" Clearly the prior 5 star posts were to sell books. This is not a great find. I do agree the story line is all over the place and after chapter 2 the book goes down hill.

    Don┬┐t Believe The Hype!

This book was so hyped up; I couldn’t wait to read it. I am a Soprano fan and thought this would be a great find to take on my business trip. I agree with the other posts that once you read the first few chapters it is very clear the reviews were written to create book sales. The story line is all over the place, the “author” rambles on and on and on. My one star is being generous because this should be more in the negative star category.

    Please, let's be honest!

Most of the reviews are so over the top, it's clear to me that it was done to promote book sales. It is not possible to have these reviews for this book. The story line is all over the place. I gave this 1 star and I'm being really generous. I should have realized the five star reviews were too hyped up to be TRUE. This book is not worth a purchase.

Poorly done. Prior reviews are so hyped you can see they are based on book sales
