Inarguably, the Philadelphia International imprint had a monopoly on the talent emerging from its own backyard throughout the '70s. But Salsoul somehow managed to creep up and steal some of its own talent; repackaged here in the never-ending campaign to reissue everything in their back catalog. This time around, there really are no definitive classics on Salsoul Presents: Philly Flavas; instead of "Love Sensation," we find Loleatta Holloway updating the classic "That's How Heartaches Are Made," and Double Exposure's "Falling in Love" in place of "Ten Percent." It's definitely one of the deeper compilations in the catalog, and die-hard fanatics will definitely be well ...

It's definitely one of the deeper compilations in the catalog, and die-hard fanatics will definitely be well served by having them all on one disc. However, those new to the Salsoul sound might want to start elsewhere to get a clearer picture of the label's phenomenal breadth.
