Overview

If Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas had continued their "Smooth" collaboration and teamed up to make a Christian record, the result might sound a whole lot like Salvador. This Austin, Texas-based quintet seamlessly blends sizzling Latin-rock rhythms, soulful R&B vocals, and a muscular horn section, resulting in music that's as musically potent as it is spiritually uplifting. The band's dynamic stylistic fusion is distinctly impressive on songs like "Lord I Come Before You" (buoyed by retro-rocking soul horns) and "Healing" (a slinky Latin number in the Santana vein) which showcase lead singer Nick Gonzales' gruff authority, as well as several Spanish-language tracks that exemplify the group's abundant energy and spirit.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Jonathan Widran
Combining all the energy of today's best Latin rock fusion music with powerful spiritual messages and sweeping pop hooks, the Austin, TX-based Salvador makes a case for Christian music being too appealing to not hit the pop charts. The smoking, brass-splashed fire rock of "Lord I Come Before You" is part alt-rock, part pop/Latin and even features a dash of blues. Nick Gonzales' raspy, Bob Carlisle-like vocals sing simply of the worship of the Lord but so emphatically that even the skeptic's heart will agree. It's interesting to catch the Biblical passages and references here, too, and marvel at how Salvador brings them into such an exciting context. As Latin jazz piano pounds in the background and trumpets sound all around, "David Danced" recalls the imagery of Israel's foot-happy king and his celebration of God's love, making it hard not to boogie right along. The intense ballad "Crucified" is not simply about Christ but also the way Christians share in that as they give their lives to Him. "Ain't It Good" is an anthemic declaration of the joy of worship that is also impossible to resist as the bluesy keyboards bounce, the horns explode, and the guitars crackle. Flamenco also plays a part in Salvador's vibe, as quick-strummed guitars form the harmonic backdrop of "Montana."

I first saw Salvador on a Christian program and was so uplifted by the song ''Lord, I Come Before You'', that I had to get the CD-I have been so blessed by it and have a soundtrack for ''Crucified'' so that I may bless others with The Truth. I highly recommend this CD and any ones that will follow. They truly put their all into their ministry. :) :)

Salvador is a great testimony to the love of Jesus Christ. I had the opportunity to see them in concert in Atlanta in Nov. 2000 and was blown away by the energetic style of the band. They have a great mix of latin and other styles of music. If you love great contemporary Christian music, this band if for you!

I saw Salvador the first time at Agape Fest on May 5, 2001. I have been in love with their music ever since. I bought their cassette a week or two later and listen to it many times a week. I never grow tired of their music! I experience so many emotions while listening to them. ''Cry Holy'' and ''Crucified'' can bring me to my knees in an instant. Then listening to songs like ''David Danced'' or ''Ain't it Good'' make me feel like danicing for ever. The Holy Spirit has truly blessed Salvador. They have a message and calling to spread the Word and bring many to Christ. Last count I heard was in the USA, we have 156 million unbelievers. I think Salvador will be bringing many of them to the Lord.

This is Salvador's first CD. They make a wonderful impression and musical mark into the world as they splash out their latin and funky songs so that believers have something to sing about. If you are a Salvador fan, you will love this first CD. It's a classic with songs like "Cry Holy", "Lord I Come before You", "Alabar al Señor", and the ever so popular "Montaña". A must have.
