Overview

It provides a succinct history of Latino migration to New York, as well as a synopsis of legislation relevant to Latino and Salvadoran immigration patterns, while emphasizing that Salvadoran migration began growing in earnest in 1980 as a result of the repressive practices of Salvadoran military dictatorships and the twelve-year-old civil war that ravaged the country. The author's interviews provide a human touch to the statistics as we hear the voices of Salvadorans relating their arduous migration and resettlement stories.
