Part of the "Wonder Books Phonics" series. The books in this series have a simple text—one sentence per spread and photographs of children engaged in a variety of activities. It is a multicultural cast, so kids should feel comfortable since they will surely relate to some of the stories and characters. Sam is a sand crab. He sits on the sand in the sun, but because the sun is too hot, Sam crawls under the sand. The book closes with a word list demonstrating the "s" sound and a note to parents and educators. One well worth reading to understand how this set of books has been designed to help kids sound out words and thus become better readers. The books in this set are numbered and color-coded.
