ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Dr. Dianne Blomberg is a nationally recognized expert in relationship communication and a professor of human communication research in Denver. Her greatest joy, she finds, is sitting on the "story couch" in her living room with her grandchildren, inventing tales about imaginary places and magical adventures.

ILLUSTRATOR BIOGRAPHY: George Ulrich has been illustrating children's books for more than 25 years. The father of two grown sons and the grandfather of one small granddaughter, he lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Suzanne, who is also an artist.

Sam often feels frightened and lonely during his first day of school, but when it is over, he eagerly tells his grandmother all about it.
