Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Photoshop 7 may sport a new painting engine and native support for Mac OS X, but for new users -- well, let's just say they're shooting the next Survivor TV series in a Photoshop training class. This can still be one intimidating piece of software. Unless you learn it from Sams Teach Yourself Adobe Photoshop 7 In 24 Hours.

Each of Carla Rose's 24 concise chapters takes you gently through one core concept or technique, including transformations, layers, paths, color modes, masks, and more. There's a full three-chapter section on filters, another on text. Many of these explanations have been carefully refined over the years (Rose has been improving this book since Photoshop 4). Much is new, including updated web coverage.

Every chapter contains step-by-step To Do's ("Turn a Scene into an Oil Painting," "Straighten a Horizon"), plus brief quizzes to make sure you get the drift. There's also the occasional priceless reminder (Among the images you should never flip: signs that say "This side up," and guys wearing one earring.) (Bill Camarda)

Bill Camarda is a consultant, writer, and web/multimedia content developer with nearly 20 years' experience in helping technology companies deploy and market advanced software, computing, and networking products and services. He served for nearly ten years as vice president of a New Jersey┬ľbased marketing company, where he supervised a wide range of graphics and web design projects. His 15 books include Special Edition Using Word 2000 and Upgrading & Fixing Networks For Dummies┬«, Second Edition.

Library Journal
It seems to be the year for launching new versions of old standards. Photoshop 7 introduces a number of new features that should drive demand for manuals. Everything addresses Photoshop beginners, with two chapters on resources and solving common problems that should be especially helpful; appropriate for public libraries. Teach Yourself, for beginning to intermediate users, is more thorough, covering the channels, masks, and other techniques that Everything omits, in addition to the basics. Chapter Q&As, quizzes, and exercises help users learn on their own; a valuable purchase for all public libraries. A full-color guide for intermediate users, Down & Dirty explains step by step "cool tricks," showing how to achieve easily impressive special effects, from wrapping type around a circle to creating backlit photo backgrounds. Sidebar tips offer additional information, and images in the book are available for free online. Magic also instructs intermediate to advanced users on creating cool, full-color effects but contains longer projects that each combine several techniques. The CD includes project files and demonstration software. Larger public libraries should consider either title. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

    Very helpful and simple book

I am completely ignorant in the Photoshop using. That is why I have browsed many different books and found that this book is the simplest and easiest way of getting some knowledge about Photoshop (7). From my point of view it is the best book for the beginners, like me. May be it is good for experienced users, but this is not me.
