This is a book about the period of first European contacts with Japon in 1600's. The book is non-fiction, but it is as captivating and easy to read as good novel. It leaves a wonderful flavor of the time and the society. Years earlier, I've read and liked Clavell's 'Shogun', and I enjoyed this book as a 'facts behind the story' follow-up on Japon. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Don't be put off by the fact that Milton is a British writer - he can actually write compelling prose. The story itself is fascinating, proving once again that truth is more interesting than fiction - in the right hands. My sole reservation is that the extensive quotation of 17th Century English gets tiring after a while. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
