Overview

The San Diego Beer News Complete Guide to San Diego Breweries is the only critical guide to all of the 70-plus operating brewhouses and brewery-owned tasting facilities serving locally produced craft beer as well as 30-plus upcoming brewery projects. Unlike other guides, it incorporates a rating system comprised of three strategically weighted categories—beer quality, service and setting—allowing readers a concise yet comprehensive description of what they can expect when visiting breweries, brewpubs, restaurants and tasting rooms. A panel of Cicerones (the beer industry equivalent of the wine world’s sommeliers), brewers, bar and restaurant owners, beer quality assurance professionals and other industry professionals were polled to compile the numeric scores and ensure their quality and reliability. Vital data such as seating and food options, days of operation, and styles of beer produced make for the most complete informational resource referencing San Diego's fast-growing, ever-changing craft brewing scene.

About the Author

As a professional brewer, I believe Brandon sets the standard in San Diego by which all other beer beat reporters must measure themselves.
—Tomme Arthur, Directory of Brewery Operations | Port Brewing/The Lost Abbey

Brandon does an excellent job of bringing the rapid paced news of the craft brewing industry in San Diego to his readers. His knowledge about brewing and beer styles, as well as flavors and aromas, gives him a special angle and viewpoint that is not always seen in beer reporting. I can always count on Brandon to bring solid facts to his readers.
—Jeff Bagby, Owner & Brewmaster | Bagby Beer Co.

I have personal experience with Brandon’s skills to cook with beer, brew beers at home and his ability to write honestly about the San Diego beer community. He is more passionate about craft beer than any other writer in town and has my respect because of it.
—Colby Chandler, Director of R&D | Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits

Brandon’s knowledge of what is happening around town has always impressed me, and I find myself learning something new all of the time in his columns. He is honest, which is a great quality in any reviewer…and I have always found his reporting to be unbiased.
—Tom Nickel, Owner | Nickel Beer Co. & O’Brien’s Pub

Brandon’s altruistic, unbiased approach to our beer and food community is invaluable. He is on the bleeding edge of current and breaking news and, coupled with his knowledge and passion for great beer and food, it gives him a polished insight on the topics he covers.
—Scot Blair, Owner | Monkey Paw Pub & Brewing, Hamilton’s Tavern & Small Bar

Brandon has been more than fair in his blogs and articles when it comes to the San Diego craft beer scene. I would trust his opinion over most who write about beer in San Diego and across the country.
—Shawn DeWitt, Director of Brewery Operations | Coronado Brewing Company

Brandon Hernández provides timely coverage of all the happenings in the San Diego beer scene. His commentary is both critical and constructive.
—Jeff Silver, Owner & Brewmaster | Rough Draft Brewing Company
