San Francisco: A Photographic Portrait

Overview

In 1847, Yerba Buena, a little town of about one thousand people, changed its name to San Francisco. The new name stuck. Waves of people came to be part of the California Gold Rush of 1848. The Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 left 225,000 people homeless and 500 people dead, and challenged the city to rebuild. In 1967, the last migration of 100,000 "Flower Children" came to settle in the Haight-Asbury section of the city. Contemporary San Francisco is presented here by Brad Perks' amazing photographs. San Francisco Photo Book Tells The Story

To many people, a photo is worth a thousand words. The San
Francisco photo book by Brad Perks tells those new to the city all the words and pictures one needs to get to know the city along the bay.

The inside flap defines the city as "a color, a place where fog is born" and "a memory you give yourself".

My husband and I buy a photo book of every major city we visit. Our first trip to San Francisco, and I my first trip to the California coast, we had to continue our tradition. We went looking for a photo book.

It is always a difficult task to select a photo book in every city. We usually look for books by local photographers and we found the perfect book in San Francisco. The book we selected is the Photographic Portrait by Brad Perks.

According to his bio, he was selected as the "official Bay photographer" for the 1999 Millennium Project.

The book includes photos of the Golden Gate Bridge from several angles in a multitude of weather conditions. There are photos from the wine country, the Bay at sunset, The Bay Bridge, downtown, and lots of local architecture.

The book is medium priced. It is filled with photos with perspectives that neither my husband or myself would have the skill to shoot nor the talent to recognize.
