As a creepy prepper with a serious fetish for post apocalyptic novels, I really enjoyed the rest of this series and was anxiously awaiting what I assumed would be the final book. It doesn't seem like this is the final book because there were several story lines that were not summed up. It also seemed to me like the author put a little less time into this book than the others. It just didn't grab me as much as his prior books. One major plot point was wrapped up but was so much less satisfying than what I was anticipating. All that said, this book is definitely worth reading, especially if you've read the rest of the series, but I definitely wouldn't start with this one. As a side note, I'm getting frustrated by the tendency of this genre to put out 3 short but low cost books instead of one normal length and normal cost book. This one took me only a few hours to finish. A book should take at least a couple of days.

Overall a pretty good apocalyptic series, however the relationships between characters seems kind of stiff and unrealistic to me. I never really found myself deeply caring about the fate of any particular character for that reason. An interesting take on the chaos and breakdown in government in this scenario, but again, a bit too simplistic. A very good concept for a novel but it feels more like a draft than a polished story. Not bad, but much more could have been done with this concept.

You can't go wrong with this author. He delivers every time! The most shocking part of this book is how real it could all become if all of the sudden the infrastructure were to be gone. I give it 5 stars, great job G. Michael Hopf! Read the book from cover to cover in 1 day, couldn't put it down.
