A Silent Film, a band from Oxford, England, has transplanted to the US (specifically Arizona) to record their second album, Sand & Snow. The result is a sweeping, majestic album full of big sounds and thoughtful lyrics that will pull you in, and make you wonder why this isn't the biggest band in the world. The first Single, "Danny, Dakota & the Wishing Well" is a wonderfully told story of love lost and regained. "Reaching the Potential" starts slowly, allowing you to take a deep breath before it bursts into a soaring, pounding exclamation of the power of faith in oneself. In "Anastasia" the band implores the woman for whom the song was named to remember herself, and who she wants to be, rather than conform to a false society standard. The rest of the album is full of songs of love, friendship, relationships lost, longing, and so much more. Musically, the four members of the band are incredibly talented musicians individually, but when they are together, they fit so well, and complement each other so perfectly, it brings the sound to another whole level. Think U2 in it's heyday. Comparisons have also been made to Keene, Coldplay and Muse. Throw in a little INXS, Peter Gabriel and Simple Minds and you start to get the idea. I would recommend everyone buy this album, then go see them live when they come anywhere near you. Soon enough, they will be playing arenas and you will regret having missed out on seeing them in an intimate venue
