More About This Textbook

What people think about you or your company is unimportant.
That's just one of the startling insights revealed in this heartwarming parable about a confused and disillusioned CEO whose encounter with an amiable millionaire and an adorable little girl changes his business-and his life-forever.  In Sandbox Wisdom, speaker, columnist, and former CEO Tom Asacker delivers a wake-up call designed to challenge conventional wisdom and encourage managers and their associates to reexamine their assumptions about business, success, and the meaning of work.
Here, at last, is some common sense wisdom for our truly uncommon business world. This timely story reveals the formulas for business and organizational success in the next millennium in an engaging style that can be read and understood by everyone who wants to succeed.  It describes what effective people do naturally to gain the crucial virtues of loyalty, trust, and growth and stay ahead of the constantly advancing competitive curve.  And its dramatically important message is told in a way that goes straight to the heart of marketing, branding, selling and management.

    Not What I expected!

I received copy of this book last evening, began reading and could not put it down. I was expecting something more on the line of the traditional corporate theology. I was pleasantly surprised to realize I was wrong. The ideas expressed were fresh, enriching and insightful.I often think about that and wonder If there could have been a better. I started thinking that years ago I could have used a guru, rather my Managers could have.

    Neuro-Linguistic Programming in Fable Form

Most business fables attempt to teach one to three key lessons about how to be more effective. And the geniuses who do this successfully (like Dr. Ken Blanchard and Dr. Spencer Johnson) certainly have my admiration. Sandbox Wisdom is unique in my experience in its scope and effectiveness as a fable. It takes the bulk of the discipline known as Neuro-Linguistic Programming and teaches it in the context of a fable about a CEO learning from being with children and animals. The beauty of this approach is that you can learn the techniques in their most common and easiest-to-understand form. Practicing with children is also a great way to learn these methods. Some of the techniques outlined here include mirroring and matching, chunking ideas and concepts, stimulating positive emotions to encourage behavior, deciphering mental models, and managing your own mood with physiology changes. The only major areas that I noticed that were missing were eye movement analysis, and verbal content analysis, both of which are helpful as clues to mental models and sequences. A good companion book for this one is NLP Masterclass. If you like the idea of learning from working with children, Dr. Blanchard's new book High Five! uses the metaphor of being a children's coach to learn how to accomplish more in working with children. I often encourage people who want to become better in their business lives to take on coaching of children's sports teams. When pursued in the spirit of serving the children's objectives, this can be quite eye-opening. I think I learned more from being Coach Don than I did in all of my graduate school courses in management and seminars I have attended since then. Be sure you don't lose the knowledge that works well in the sandbox! Donald Mitchell, co-author of The Irresistible Growth Enterprise and The 2,000 Percent Solution

    Simple, Honest, FUN!

This is a great book about building a brand and a business that is wonderfully disguised in a work of prose. 'Sandbox Wisdom' instructs us how to apply the power of child-like wonderment to the world of business. In doing so, we learn to be more creative, open-minded, enthusiastic, honest, and happy. The wisdom presented throughout the story is easy to digest, and the simple, playful, and honest style of the text helps the reader take to heart the lessons learned for business as well as for life.

Do we recognize that childlike genius when we see it ?? !

What I remember the most about people are the stories they tell me. Tom's story is one I will not forget. I look forward to practicing some of the ideas gained from this insightful memory for me. Now it is a matter of using some of Bill's Notes to make ' communication a contact sport'. Corporate culture has so many Bill's .... perhaps if Sandbox wisdom was applied, there would be more Falcon's.
