Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Patricia Timbrook
Each story is rich in equestrian details, and centers around one of the riding students at Sandy Lane Stables, owned and operated by its well-loved instructors, Nick and Sarah Brooks. In A Horse for The Summer, author Bates pairs a pony named Chancey to young Tom Buchanan, whose love of learning to ride propels him into the blue-ribbon winner's circle for Sandy Lane. One year later, in The Runaway Pony, author Leigh puts a pony named Storm Cloud with rider Jess Adams who tries her best to place first in an important event, but places second. Jess discovers that helping find another girl's runaway palomino is far more rewarding than getting ribbons. Finally, another year later still, in Strangers at the Stables, author Bates couples a pony named Pepper to rider Rosie Edwards, who helps solve a mystery at Sandy Lane Stables. This last story binds the young students together in a brave effort to keep their beloved stables running smoothly and maintaining its high standards. Within the stories readers will discover what makes up the abilities and achievements of young riders, and what consequences occur when they make wrong choices versus their rewards for the right ones. This omnibus, part of the "Sandy Lane Stables" series, is a triple-crown delight for horse-story lovers of any age.
