Overview

When abandoned golden retriever Denby is rescued by Santa in the Nevada desert on Christmas Eve, he knows he has found the perfect family. But over the months between one Christmas and the next, Denby finds himself again and again doing what he has been told not to. Is it magic? Are his actions somehow tied to the injury he had when Santa found him? Or is he just a bad dog? With the help of a reindeer, some elves, and Santa himself, Denby finds that solving his own mystery could also mean saving Christmas.

This charming tale of Santa’s dog, Denby, is the first in the Adventures of Denby series.

Children say Denby is a great read-along Christmas story. Mothers and fathers say Denby encourages early reading development. Grandparents just say Denby teaches children courage and the value of an honest day's work.

Editorial Reviews

Jacqueline Kent
“This story demonstrates that good conquers evil, trust has to be earned, and even elves can be a bit snippy if pushed. In this book, Sutton weaves two classic plots: 'Christmas is threatened,' and 'Abandoned Pet Needs a Home' into a charming tale of adventure that young readers and their parents will enjoy."
~Jacqueline Kent, author of middle-grade books: "Business Builders in Cosmetics," "Business Builders in Fashion," and "Women in Me"
Louis Sachar
"A stray dog and Santa Claus. What more can you ask for in a kid's book? Sutton's clever story is imaginative and innovative."
--Louis Sachar (winner of the Newberry Medal and National Book Award, author of "Holes" and more)

    Very cute and enduring story!

Santa Dog begins with a golden retriever named Denby, who is left behind by his family and has to fend for himself. He thought he found a new home when he wakes up in the Nevada desert with a splitting headache, a cut on his head and no memory of how he got there. Luckily for him, Santa and his reindeer Blitzen spot the lost dog and take him in. Denby loves his new life at the North Pole but he runs into trouble when he just can't stop thinking about a forbidden room and one day he tries to get in. Did Denby mean to be a bad dog or is something else at work here? Will he be able to stay in his newfound home? To find out what happens to Denby you're going to have to read the book, and I highly recommend that you do. It is a fun read for the entire family to enjoy together. It's a great children's book that expresses the importance of family, loyalty and working to do what is right. It was a nice break to get the holiday spirit going. It is also at a level that kids can understand it and laugh along with you. It makes me want a golden retriever even more than I did before. I will be passing this book along to my friends with kids so they can enjoy Denby's adventures.
