Christmastime traditions highlighted in this little book include plaza performances of the folk plays Las Posadas and Los Pastores, and at the Pueblos, Matachinas dancers and snow kachinas. Santa Fe holiday decor includes wreaths fashioned from ristras, streets lit up by farolitos and luminarias. The author includes a sampler of local recipes, from burritos (with red and green chile sauce) to posole and biscochitos.

Meet the Author

A Southwestern historian and the co-founder of a folk art gallery, Christine Mather is well known nationally as a lecturer on art and cultural history and author of several volumes on the traditions of the Southwest--Santa Fe Homes, Santa Fe Style, Native America: Arts, Traditions, and Celebrations, and True West: Arts, Traditions, and Celebrations. She lives with her husband and two daughters, Amanda and Thais, in the heart of Santa Fe.
