In this slight but sweet picture book, Santa is so excited about delivering toys that he has a hard time keeping quiet on Christmas Eve. His loud "Hee hee," a giant "Ah choo!" and his nervous stumbling threaten to wake up sleeping children on his route. Luckily, he avoids disaster and makes it back to the North Pole where he can let out a big "HO, HO, HO!" Kids will giggle at Santa's clumsiness and childlike behavior, and they'll likely take a shine to Warnes's (I Don't Want to Go to Bed) cartoony rendition of a roly-poly Saint Nick. Ages 3-7. (Sept.)

Shhh! by Julie Sykes, illus. by Tim Warnes, portrays Santa Claus as lovable but goofy in this board book with rounded edges. Santa makes so much noise that he has to be reprimanded with a "Shhh!" from each creature he meets, so as not to wake the children. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Originally published as a picture book in 1996 and then reissued in 2004 in the U.S., this tale has been turned into a board book for an even younger audience. Santa is a happy fellow and cannot stop himself from singing. The reindeer caution him to be quiet or he will wake the children. Santa, a bit chagrined, says that he will try. This Santa seems to have some other problems. He misses a roof and lands in a backyard where the cat also cautions him to be quiet. Next, Santa slips with a bag full of presents, and laughs out loud when in the house. The dog is the one who reminds Santa to be quiet. Finally, after an extremely busy night Santa arrives home and promptly falls asleep and a little mouse cautions the reindeer not to make so much noise eating or they will awaken Santa. Kids who still enjoy the fantasy of Santa and Christmas may find the book amusing, but they may also be distressed at his apparent clumsiness.

I really enjoy using this book in my kindergarten class. The Illustrations are great and the story is very funny. Most children can relate to Santa's difficult time being quite.
