As far back as she can remember, Dessen has always wanted to write. She remembers churning out wildly imaginative stories on an old manual typewriter her parents gave her when she was eight or nine years old. So it was only natural that after college she would forego a "real job," choosing instead to support herself by waiting tables at a local eatery while trying to publish a novel. In 1996, just three years after graduation, she sold her first book, the witty, wry coming-of-age story That Summer. A second novel, Someone Like You, followed two years later. (In 2003, these two books were loosely adapted into the movie How to Deal, starring teen sensation Mandy Moore.)
Dessen claims she never set out to be a YA writer, but somehow her memories always bring her back to high school, a time and place that resonates strongly for her. Living in her hometown where she is still in contact with many childhood friends, she finds it pretty easy to get in touch with her "inner teenager." In addition, the books she read from that time have a special, magical staying power. She explains it this way on her website:
"[W]hile I couldn't tell you complete plots of novels I read even six months ago, I do remember even the smallest descriptive details from Lois Lowry's A Summer to Die or Judy Blume's Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. I think it was because back then books were still somewhat new to me, and when I found an author who seemed to say just what I was feeling, it really struck me and resonated. I hope that my books do that for the people who read them."If one can judge from her growing fan base and continued presence on the bestseller lists, Dessen can safely say "mission accomplished."

They mixed up the two books lock and a key and just listen. This is a great way to find out if these books are right for you. Sarah Dessen is a great writter. Youll cry, laugh and have a smile after reading all her books. Enjoy

Her books are fantastic! Ive read them all and enjoy every word and page. When I read her books it feels like your in her story, thats a hard thing to do in writing. Anyway I HIGHLEY recommend these books and any reader who is looking for some laughing, crying, ans smiling. Enjoy!

I plan to read all the books in the sampler..I love that they all had at least 3 chapters in it, as i would get so engrossed in the chapters that when they come to an end, I would forget there wasnt the rest of the book and get upset because I wanted to read more of the book!!! they really kept me interested and looking for more..
hope she does more of these as i will definitely read more of them..

Really good, I liked all of the books and plan to buy them. But they messed up Lock and Key is really Just Listen and Just Listen is really Lock and Key.

This is a good book to give you hints of what the sarah dessen books will be like. It has all the books in it that sarah dessen has wrote.

I've read a lot of her books and she is my favorite author. My favorite book by her that I've read was: The Truth About Forever
Currently reading: What Happened to Goodbye
It's probably in the top five of my favorites by her as well.

I love that you can preview the books with one download instead of multiple! The mistake I saw is the same as mentioned in previous review.

I love sarah dessen, but i wasmt sure if id like all her books. So this is great. Even though its been mentioned before, Just Listen and Lock and Key are mixed up, even thought they are bothe very good books:) the best part is that this is free.

Umm its good i mean sarah is a great author but they messed up they put lock and key under just listen amd just listen under lock and key just a ps if you want to buy one of the books

Reading is my drug. When i am having a hard time in life i read. I always choose sarah dessen books thought. My favorite book by her is along for the ride because that is how i feel sometimes. Like i am just alon for the ride. So if you are having a hard time in life just pick a sarah dessen book. It will take all you worres away while you ar rding herbook

The samplers r very good n is wayyyyy longer than the individval samplers the only thing is that there is a mistake with the orders of the books Lock n Key is the last book not 1st and Just Listen is the 1st book not last.
