Satchelmouse and the Doll's House

Satchelmouse and the Doll's House

by Antonia Barber, Claudio Muñoz (Illustrator)

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 1-3 A magic trumpet stored in a pencil case enables Satchelmouse to grant his friend Sarah her wish to be the pretty little girl in the village school's doll house. His impish magic transforms Sarah into the house's little servant girl instead, and she experiences the drudgery of that position before convincing Satchelmouse to ``magic her back to the classroom.'' The watercolor illustrations are humorous in a cartoon style. At some point they are near caricatures and somewhat stereotypical. Satchelmouse borders on being manipulative and derisive in his mischievous actions, while both he and Sarah display a serve-you-right attitude. This British upstairs-downstairs story will have limited appeal and interest for American readers. Janie Schomberg, Edgerton Elementary School, Maplewood, Minn.
