Overview

Is there a place for dating in our spiritual lives? Is there room in a religious journey for committed relationships that don't lead to marriage? Far from distracting or sacrilegious, can dating even be... Christian? Religion has usually been either silent or negative about these questions. But we say it's time to take dating out of the shadows. After exploring the topic with friends who struggle with dating, listening to the dating escapades of our students, and talking to each other for hours about our own particular relationships, we realized that we had something to say about this issue. In our discussions about dating and spirituality, we tell stories, ask questions, and explore books and movies for answers and examples. We make fun of each other and promise to tell it like it is. Most of all, we invite and challenge you, the reader, to join us in the conversation, to laugh with us and struggle with such a timely and important topic: understanding the relationship between the spiritual life and the dating life.

SAVE THE DATE: A FIVE STAR MUST READ

SAVE THE DATE by DONNA FREITAS, Ph.D. and JASON KING, Ph.D. Reviewed by Raymond Nighan Some books touch the heart; others the mind, but what a treat to read one that does both. SAVE THE DATE is a must. You will enjoy, and laugh and cry and think when you read. One comes away really believing, due to its emotional sincerity and intellectual depth, that its content will make a difference in your life. The book¿s most remarkable quality derives from every chapter¿s ability to integrate what our culture fragments in contexts that are fun and illuminating. The book is engaging and anything but dry. Dating, love, sex, relationships etc. are words we use or misuse with alarming frequency. Years ago, I was in a bookstore looking for something for my teenage daughter that defined a spiritual context for dating without either preaching didactically, or demeaning the physical as degrading to moral health. The clerk looked puzzled and finally said they had no such book, and a fellow customer joined with me in wishing they did. Now we do. The treat is that you will want to read and share the wisdom of SAVE THE DATE over and over. ENJOY!!!
