Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Jenna Caldwell thinks that her life will be perfect when she marries the powerful and wealthy David Merrick, heir to the Merrick dynasty and fortune. What the marriage brings her, however, is the temper of a man who tries to control her through violence and pain. The divorce delivers no relief, as David delights in the hunt and the eventual beating that will be his retribution. With the help of her attorney, Jenna runs to the Colorado ranch home of Jack Turner, a cowboy with an army past. She arrives at the Turner ranch beaten, bleeding, hanging to life—and Jack immediately is drawn to the haunted, and hunted, beauty. While Jenna slowly heals, she is attracted to Jack: his strength, his safety, and his love. He is the perfect, modern-day cowboy, allowing Jenna to be strong and fight back on her own—as long as she ends the day in his bed!

Verdict This first installment in Ryan’s “Hunted” series presents a perfect example of a woman almost destroyed by the madman that is her husband. While Jenna is beaten many times, she is no victim; she refuses to accept this abuse and further learns that not all men are like her ex-husband. You will find yourself rooting for the battered Jenna and the sexy Jack, who fights so hard to win her bruised and battered heart.—Judy Taylor Garner, Strayer Univ., Glen Allen, VA

Characters were great. Could almost picture the beautiful ranch. The main character's mind was brilliant to keep herself alive and attempt to set herself free once and for all. The underlying lesson is that everyone needs someone to count on, no matter how strong you are. I could have done wothout the explicit sex scenes and occasional foul language - these were just not necessary, the storyline could have stood on its own without that. To each their own, I just know some people like to know if these things are present in a book.

I enjoyed reading the book. I will probably read more of Ms. Ryan's books when they are published. I know that an occasional error will happen, but there were a great number of homophones misused. There was also a loop of several pages that you had to use the "Go to" command to get past. If I'm going to read on my Nook, I'd like to see as much care taken with the text as is taken with paperbacks, at the least. As someone as old as dinosaurs, I'm adapting to the misuse of many words and the changing verb tenses that are considered acceptable. However, I am one of those who does not believe in "dumbing down" grammar. Oh, well.

This is my first by Jennifer Ryan, and, it won't be my last. This book was white knuckle excitement from page one right to the end. Wow. We always know who the bad guy is, its wonderful to watch our heroine best him. Wow! I'm going to snap up the rest of this series right now!!!

Loved the way the author told this story. Abuse no matter what form it takes is very hard to get away from. It became very tense at times but I found the heroine a very strong person. Loved Jack and all the secondary characters who helped make the story come to life. To me the story is very believeable. I will continue reading this author's books and hope she will continue with some of these secondary characters. JudyE

I really enjoyed this story. At times you might feel that to much is going on but in the end it all comes together.

I stopped reading half way through. The storyline was just too ridiculous. Jack falls in love with her while she's passed out and recovering from being beaten. He's lusting after her while she is unconscious, battered and covered in bruises. Weird. Then she wakes up and imediately trusts this man she doesnt even know. I stopped reading when she is ready to have his babies after knowing him less than a week. There's no real dialogue or getting to know each other. Too unrealistic for me.

I was hooked in the beginning but before I was halfway through I was forcing myself to keep reading. I finally actually did quit with about 50 pages to go. They fell in love way to quick. And she throws her money around so much that I can't imagine it meaning anything any more and extremely unrealistic.

I am very impressed with this author.   Even though this is fiction, this was a real life situation that is occurring in our society today.  If she puts such real life situations into all of her works of fiction,  this author will be very popular for years to come.  Good job, Jennifer Ryan!

Gave it a two star. the story hooks you and then you're reading swearing and cussing and explicit sex scenes and descriptions. am deleting it from my library.

I've read all the hunted books and have to say I loved each one

An interesting story. It had several sexual scenes and some upsetting, shocking abuse scenes. Could have done without those.

This book was just ok.  With all her money, why didn't she take self-defense classes or buy a gun and learn to shoot it?  If she was so brilliant then why keep running from a coward? Too sappy and unrealistic story line.

This is an incredibly bad book. Please don't waste your time.

You can pretty much anticipate the next page. Not what I would call a page turner or even humorous.

Weak character development makes this difficult to get through. It takes a tough, seriuos subject matter and combines it with every romance cliche there is - love at first sight, excessive wealth, damsel in distress, etc - which creates a ridiculous story. If the premise wasn't so serious, it would be laughable.

It must just be me but i had trouble finishing this one ..the rule of thumb is write what you know ..n this one obviously knows very little about battered women ...the story itself was not poorly written . Charachters were likeable just NOT believable to me ....i mean really they make love while shes still covered in bruises ? How could that possibly be pleasurable ? And she just instantly loves n trust him? After what shes been through? Yeah right .added to that the poor womans been beaten severly and was close to dying n our " hero " can't keep his mind off sex n is constantly coming on to her? Thats not romantic to me ...its twisted ... besides the plot had holes i could drive a truck through .....apparently other readers had no problem with any of this but to me i'd say only get this book because its free and only if you can tottaly suspend your common sense to overlook the obviously implausible parts ....if you can do that i guess its a half decent read

This book was a page turner. As you get to know the characters, you realize how strong a woman can be. The emotional and physical struggle in this book are key to involving the reader and making you want to cheer as the strength of this woman brings a perfect ending. I read the next one in the series and am watching for the 3rd. I can't wait.
