Overview

Famous author though he may be, Alexander Montgomery is not someone you take home to meet your mother. Seriously flawed, damaged by a horrific past, he’s trying hard to claw his way back to normality. But how can anyone respect what he truly is? His therapy involves regular sessions at Study in Scarlet, an exclusive S&M club.

Then comes Sage. Tall, with black hair and blue eyes, an up-and-coming actor with impossible charm and boy-next-door good looks, he’s the perfect choice to play the leading man in a TV adaptation of Alex’s latest best-seller. Even more, he is a man you introduce to your family. Which Alex would do—if he weren’t taken by another man who offers the punishments Alex prays will wipe away the past and make him the person he wants to be. Yet, perhaps there is another path to redemption. If only the solution would reach out and touch him.

Meet the Author

Sue Mac Nicol was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom. At the age of eight, her family moved to Johannesburg, South Africa where she stayed for nearly thirty years before arriving back in the UK in December 2000. She has written nine novels, two novellas and a screenplay since February 2012 and clearly believes in keeping herself busy. She has found herself wanting to stay in the genre that is M/M Romance so more can definitely be expected.

Sue is a member of Romance Writers of America and Romantic Novelists Association in the UK. She is also a member of a rather unique writing group, called the Talliston Writer's Circle, which in itself has a story all of its own to tell and lives in the rural village of Bocking, in Essex, with her family. Her plan is to keep writing as long as her muse sits upon her shoulder. Her dream is to one day make enough money to give up the day job and get that big old house in the English countryside overlooking a river, where she can write all day and continue to indulge her passion for telling stories.

4.5 Stars!! I’ll give yalls a heads up right from the start. THIS BOOK CONTAINS BDSM IN IT TO A HARD CORE LEVEL. If you are uncomfortable with reading books with that in them, you should NOT read this book. Also, this book contains Male Male relations (as stated above) so if you don’t like those types of books, DO NOT read this one! Now onto the review!! We meet Alexander (what a shock I know!) right from the beginning and we are introduced right away to his form of “therapy” which is visiting a BDSM club to be whipped. Right from the beginning, I could tell that Alexander isn’t doing this because he enjoys it and my heart breaks for him each time he visits Eric (his Dom). You could tell that something had happened to him in his past that he was trying to get past. Usually I don’t like it when you can tell a character is hiding something, but I did like the fact that throughout the story we were told little bits of what had happened to him. Sage’s character, although he was really well written, I felt like there was more time spent on Alexander than him. I think it ended up balancing out in the end of the story though because Sage was more about his strength than anything else. He was able to support Alexander when he needed him to and he was able to help Alexander grow and accept his past. There are many different things that take part in this story, between Alexander and Sage’s relationship , the attempts on peoples’ lives, and of course finding out the truth of Alexander’s past. While there was a bunch happening in the book, I still think it was a very well written and the story flowed really well. If you enjoy the M/M genre, then I do believe you should check this book out! *Received an ARC for honest review*

The newest book by Susan Mac Nicol is Saving Alexander; it is completely riveting, heart-wrenching and she take you on a ride of self-discovery. It starts off with Alex Montgomery a man you wouldn't want to take home too Mama. He is a well-known, talented author who is hiding a painful secret from his past that happened 17 years earlier. The only solace that Alex finds is in an S&M club where he is being dominated and abused by Eric as he thinks of this as his needed therapy. As the story progresses we slowly get tidbits of his past that show why this type of solace is what Alex needs to deal with in his past. Reading the S&M scene was so well-written that it doesn't make you squeamish but yet sexually explicit. It works so well with the scene. You want to grab Alex and hug him and provide the love he needs and at the same time strangle Eric the dominator. Now comes in beautiful Christopher Sage who just prefers to go by Sage. He is the man you do want to take home too Mama. Once Alex see's Sage he knows he is perfect to play the lead character in the new TV series that is being produced from Alex's book. The character Carter West was actually written for Sage but that is unbeknownst to everyone except Alex. Sage is heartwarming and actually what Alex is in need of even though he keeps Sage at bay. There are not many surprises when it comes to Sage but with Alex there are so many twists and challenges he needs too over come to find love with Sage. My favourite scene (and trust me there are so many good ones) but this particular scene ripped at my heart strings. Late one night Sage is closing up and ready to leave but comes across Alex, in his office and passed out on his desk. At first Sage is come on Alex, get it together but then he gets closer and sees the many bruises and gashes on Alex's back. He is now really concerned and tries to wake Alex, which he does and he again pushes Sage away. Alex thinks if Sage knew the truth about his past, he would go running and lose him for good. So at Sage's pushing he asks Alex what was so bad that he needs this kind of solace. Alex finally gives in and basically challenges Sage, so you really want know ok here it is. Now Sage is thinking, does he really want to know and Alex tells him what happened 17 years ago. Sage is now heartbroken for the pain Alex endured. I won't spoil what actually happened for you but trust me it is quite horrific. Susan takes us on a wild ride of complete personal torment, BDSM, heartbreak and beautiful sex scenes. The way Susan writes actually makes you feel that you are a part of Alex and Sage's lives. Once you start reading her beautiful and yet tormenting story, you won't be able to put it down. Once you are done you will be thinking of Alex and Sage for months to come, you won't be able to stop thinking about them. I love this story very much and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a book of love and redemption and beautiful man loves scenes. I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Paul at Crystal's many Reviewers!

This story had me hooked from the beginning. The journey of Alex and Sage is one wasn’t just of their romance but of coming to terms with their pasts in order to have a future.  Susan Mac Nicol has done a fantastic job. I was unable to put this book down, and when I HAD to I was thinking of when I could get back to it.

Warning: this book contains explicit scenes of S&M also rape.  Alexander is an up and coming author with a haunting past. He sees Eric at Study of Scarlet an S&M club to punish himself for his past as part of his therapy. He wrote his books with an actor in mind as his inspiration for his main Character so he jumped at the chance to meet Sage in person and have him play the lead in the series being developed from his books. All in all this is a beautifully written book full of the struggles of love and life. I have to say I totally loved this book. Before I  go into why I will say that there was lots going on, lots hinted at and some of the stuff thrown out there left me with a couple unanswered questions or was solved a bit lightly. I can’t say any more on this without giving away the plot.  Having said this I will also say I still think this is one of my favourite books. I loved Alexander through all his flaws he was amazing. He isn’t a bad man he is a broken man. He tortures himself mentally and physically for his past.   Sage on the other hand is the perfect hot hero. Some people reading this may think he is too good and he would never accept Alex’s situation (seeing the S&M man).I disagree. Perhaps in reality it would have been even harder than in this fiction book but I think it was handled well here. The conflict was shown, the jealousy and pain was shown. This is one of those stories of love being difficult. But life is difficult. There are things in each of ours past that our lover must abide.  The struggles of this romance were great and I thought the mystery was good and very twisty. There also is a lot going on in this story besides the turmoil of the relationship. I would have liked a bit more of Sage. I highly recommend this book if you like lots of angst, broken men, actors, authors, mystery S&M, and lots of very hot mansex.

Do not expect an easy read on the senses here, expect to be uncomfortable, saddened and to feel all of the emotional and physical torture as the main character does. Saving Alexander by Susan Mac Nicol takes the battle atonement, acceptance and love down a path that will shred your emotions. Alex has a past that haunts him, wreaking havoc down to his very soul and self-destructive behavior is his atonement and “therapy.” Eric is Alex’s “therapist” at the S&M club, more than willing to “help” Alex beat his demons, but his idea of therapy can be overly brutal. When Sage comes into Alex’s life like a breath of fresh air and sunshine, how can Alex feel worthy and deserving of such goodness? Is Eric ready to let go of Alex or will he destroy the budding relationship between Sage and Alex? Is Sage ready to stand up to Alex’s demons and help him conquer them? Will Alex accept the love Sage offers? Once again, author Susan Mac Nicol sets a powerful an emotionally brutal stage in a battle of good versus evil within the heart and mind of her main character. She boldly pulls no punches as she takes us into the dark world of pain and control, where the light at the end of the tunnel promises true redemption. You will be moved by her words and the strength of her characters, and will not be left untouched as you reach that last page.
