Saving Private Ryan [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]by John Williams [composer]
Saving Private Ryan was an unexpected masterstroke from Steven Spielberg -- a powerful, brutal film that didn't flinch in depicting the violence in World War II, managing to be an antiwar film that was also pro-war. Even though it contained a dose of Spielberg's traditional sentimentality, it remained a complex, layered film scored by John Williams. The composer had less room in the film than usual -- many scenes, particularly the battle sequences, were designed to play without music -- yet he added sentiment wherever he could nonetheless.

This is one of the greatest scores John Williams has ever composed. A lot of people think this cd is boring. Let me be the first to tell that it is not. Saving Private Ryan takes us back to D-day. This music is somewhat sad, but very touching. I highly recommend Saving Private Ryan.
i gotta say this is one of the best cds iv ever listened to for awhile its not boring nor is it weird or mainly the reason why i weant to buy this cd to complete my world war 2 collection i own band of brothers on dvd i also own saving private ryan on dvd and i also own the band of brothers soundtrack im just missing this gem out of my collection i love all of mr williams work hes one of the best composers of our age and time
Williams pours his soul into this film with some of the most heart felt composition & orchestration I have ever heard. His treatment of the subject suggests an intense understanding of all of the men's souls so sadly lost on ''D'' day for the freedoms we enjoy both here and in the rest of the world. The ''Hymn for the Fallen'' will bring tears to your eyes! The solitude of a man's death was captured in music!
I am an avid fan of Mr. Williams. Mainly because of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones Trilogies. But I started getting some of his other soundtracks, first The Patriot which is very good, but I had seen Private Ryan several times, and I decided to get the soundtrack. When I first listened to ''Hymn to the Fallen'' it immediately humbled and made me realize the losses of the 2000+ on D-Day. I'm a World War II buff especially in D-Day and this was such a moving piece of musoc
