Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Spending any amount of time with these Big Board Books is akin to being in the middle of a school room full of toddlers. The oversize format and the large scale (the babies' faces are about fist-size) showcase Oxenbury's winsome, multiracial babes, who spill food on each other, sing together, play with adults, bounce on beds, clap hands and play with fingers or toes. Very lively fare. Ages 14. (August)
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Reissued in board book format, Oxenbury presents a multicultural group of babies doing things that babies enjoy. In this book they climb all over Dad, ride on his back, and swing in the swings until, exhausted from all the activity, they fall into a sound sleep. Lap sitters will enjoy looking at the babies, hearing the simple words and joining in with their own comments. The illustrations are full of humor. Others in the series are Clap Hands, All Fall Down, and Tickle, Tickle.

This is an old favorite of mine. The wonderful multiracial illustrations and the engaging rhymes--which can be recited in play with or without the book--draw little ones to it.

Ryan just turned one year old. He loves to look at books since he was 4 months old. Say goodnight has become a fast favorite. He wants it read over and over again to him each night. He especially likes to go "bumpity, bumpity, hold on tight".

I read this book just a hand full of times and then my daughter (23 months) insisted on 'reading it' on her own. It's a short book with a few words per page making it really easy for my daughter to 'read' along. She also loves looking at the big baby drawings so beautifully illustrated in this book.
