After reading this book I realized what I was doing wrong in my personal relationships. Now I know what to say to deal with someone when they are angry or upset. I have new skills for separating the 'symptoms' from the 'problem'. Now when someone tells me they are upset--I ask the right questions to get to the real problem. This book has really helped me. Highly recommended!

Great book that gives you ways to really use your words to communicate. It's amazing how we use the same phrases every day without realizing what we are doing. Dr. Malandro points out ineffective words and gives powerful alternatives. Really excellent books for the real world.

LOVED IT! I used the skills for handling difficult situations with my husband and our relationship is better than its been in a long time. I'm also using Malandro's advice on avoiding weak words and replacing them with powerful ones. Not only do I feel more confident, people are paying attention to what I'm saying. I never thought my word choice could make such a difference in the response I get from others. I highly recommned this book for anyone who believes as I do that 'communication is everything'!

Say It Right The First Time is an amazing tool as well as entertaining read. It states the surprisingly obvious, and not so obvious, things we say which actually interrupt what we are trying to accomplish. This book provides great examples of what works, what doesn't work and why. It is a real eye opener and has forever changed the way I speak and listen. This book is an absolute must for everyone!

This book spells out, clearly and concisely, communication 'truths' that I never learned in school. The author is direct and to-the-point and captured my full attention. I now have an arsenal of 'secret communication weapons' for work. One of my favorites from the book is 'A qualifed 'yes' is always a 'no'. I'm often disappointed when people at work, or friends, say 'yes, but' and never follow through. I now understand that a 'qualified yes' has conditions that must be resolved before the person really means yes. For me, I am dropping the word 'try' from my vocabulary since this is my way of avoiding committing. Bottom line--this book is great. It is packed with skills, tips, and well, secret weapons that are helping me resolve issues I could not resolve before at both work and home. Read it and build your secret weapons!
