NARRATOR: Oliver Wyman

Scab McNally has set his sights on a new challenge -- proving once and for all that his classmate, Missy Malone, is really an alien in disguise. Scab and his friends have nicknamed Missy "Never Missy" because her arm is always first in the air every time the teacher asks a question, and Missy never gets one wrong. Come on, how is that really possible?

When Missy decides to run for class president, Scab sees the perfect opportunity to challenge her by running against her.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Clemens
Pick Scab...for President that is. Fourth-grader, Scab McNally is back in book three of the "Secrets of a Lab Rat" series. His arch-nemesis, Never Missy Malone, continues to make his life miserable. She never loses the Friday math challenge, Fly Around the World; she always dresses in a puffy, purple jacket, that Scab is convinced hides her alien tentacles; and now she's running for class president. When he decides to run against her, Scab knows it will take more than posters and slogans to win. He will need the stunt of a lifetime to earn the votes of his classmates. Together with his friends Doyle and Will, he hatches the perfect plan, to become the Human Vacuum. Liver and onions, no problem. Stinky cheese, easy. Fossilized fruitcake, piece of cake. When Missy gives the Human Vacuum an innocent looking tomato to eat, Scab knows victory is at hand, but things and people aren't always what they seem. The classroom and sibling rivalries are right on target for the intended audience. The non-stop action will have giggles alternating with gross-out groans, the latter of which will have great appeal, especially for boys. There is enough diversity in narration that characters are easily identified. Although the tone is light-hearted some passages come across as more pointed when hearing them read aloud, than they do when just reading the text. Recommend this to fans of funny school stories who like to see the underdog succeed.
