Even if he wasn’t a British officer, Deborah Morgan would detest the arrogant Kit Marshall! Being on opposite sides of a war alone should be enough to keep them at a distance, but injured men, murderers, and a scrappy little dog drive them together, forging unbreakable bonds of the heart.

Meet the Author

After growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area and marrying my high school sweetheart, we became what Alvin Toffler called "corporate gypsies." We've lived in a number of states and countries, including Italy, and have visited a lot of places, some of which show up in my stories. I'm a retired high school science teacher with degrees in English and psychology. (Those two and $4 will get you a good cup of coffee!) I've always loved history, though, as you might guess from the last chapter of my books. That's what happens when you mix a teacher with a self-professed history geek. We are once again back in the Bay Area with our long, tall Pole of a dog.

I really liked this book. Not only were the historical facts mostly correct, the historical characters were used in the right periods (for the most part). The heroine actually had a backbone, unlike most of the simpering fools that usually show up in this time period. This did a great job of showing the blurred lines between love & politics. Well worth reading. I'll read more from this author.

Having a relationship is hard enough without it being during a war....and you being on opposite sides. I really enjoyed this book. I couldnt put it down. Kit and deborah went through so much and i couldnt wait to see what would happen next. This wasnt a flowery book where everyone was perfect. The people seemed real and the situations could happen in real life. I loved it.

I really enjoyed the book and had a hard time putting it down. The characters had substance, and the story was engaging with a nice mix of romance, humor and intrigue. It was 652 pages on my Nook.

A decently engaging romance, with likable characters, although it has a tendency to drag, as well as to introduce new plot points that turn out to be mostly unnecessary. It could also do with a once-over by a good editor, as there are a number of misspellings, lost punctuation, and a great many "I do not think it means what you think it means" wrong words. Plus, it might help the author to be a little bit more familiar with the era: for example, dresses didn't button up the back, and the characters' speech patterns tended to cycle back and forth between more period speech and more modern speech.

I really enjoyed Kit and Deborah's story. How a Continental General's daughter ended up married to a British officer and Earl sure keeps the reader entertained. Great read!!

I loved the first half of this book--couldn't put it down. The second half, however, just floundered about without a direction, so I really can't recommend it.

Could not put it down!

I had a hard time believing i was in the 1700s due to the dialogue and the publicly accepted liberties between the sexes. Also the characters were not well developed, the dog plays too miniscule a role to be part of the title, and the relationship between Kit and Deborah lacked depth.

This story could have been told with less pages.

I love war movies but i dont like to read about them & i love to read romance books, so this book is the best of both. And to know that some of the characters in this book were real people at one time was great!! I really loved this book

Don't judge a book by its cover. I regret not reading this book earlier. Really enjoyed this book. Very well written and great story line. Highly recommended!

I reallly loved this book. The author wrote a story around historical events and reeled you back in time. You forget about small luxuries like electricity and department stores. Going back to a time of horseback or boat as your only means of transit and love blooms between two people on opposite sides of the war. I loved this book and will look for more work by this author.

Cute. Felt a little forced toward the end there, but good overall.
