Library JournalWalking into the London meeting of a group pursuing the intellectual study of sensuality, newly widowed, fresh-from-the-country Frances Hart is momentarily shocked when intense, silver-haired barrister James Whitcox demands to know, "What does a woman desire?" But Frances is in town to learn about desire, among other things, and when her honest responses intrigue the members of the group—especially James—she is invited to join. There's a lot more than explicit sex—although there is plenty of that—to this frankly erotic romance, which takes a hard look at Victorian double standards and the penalties for women who ignore them and with feminist aplomb puts everything into perspective. Although she has published two novellas and reprinted some of her earlier novels (e.g., Awaken, My Love; The Lover), Schone scores here with her first full-length romance in several years. She lives in Roselle, IL.
