This is the first in a series. I have read both and enjoyed them. This is well written, with a few grammatical errors. The plot and characters were well developed and easy to follow.

Ex-con Ray Rhodes' claim he was framed on weapons and drug charges is only the beggining when former cop Lucky Lucas is reluctantly dragged into an investagion as a family favor. Lucas quickly finds himself mixing with crooked cops, Chinese assassins, a broken family with a disturbing and dangerous history that leads to blackmail and murder. When I first started this book I thought it was going to be a murder mystery and started out pretty slow, not so slow that your not interested but as I got a few pages in and the story (which did say is excellent) started unfolding I just could not put the book down. Lucas' daughter-in-law Kathleen convinces Lucas to help out a old friend from there he finds two cops that have major problems that include drug use, porn and prostitution. As he starts looking further to help Rhodes, he stirs up trouble for himself. Still trying to convience himself that he should be the doting grandfather to his two grandchildren but finding that he just can't walk away. You need to read this book it is well written and will keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed it and I think you will too!

Well told strory of a retired cop being asked by a family member to look into charges against her friend which may be trumped up. Reluctantly Lucky Lucas accepts not for the benefit of the accused, but for his daughter in law and this startts the story to spin. The author does a great job of setting detail for San Francisco. Having been there many times over the years, I can picture where Lucky is going as the story progresses. Lucky doesn't do anything beyond his abilities unlike the super hero type. this makes it believable. The characters are clearly drawn, interesting and easy to picture. The story is a good read and the ending has an unusual finish to it that mirrors life rather than popular fiction. You have to read the book to get to the ending!

This is a good story with other stories in the series

This fits the classic "hard-boiled ex-cop turned detective" genre. If you like that style, with all the violence and "immoral" behavior that comes with it, you'll find it a very enjoyable, fast read with an interesting plot. JRB

A very good, 250 page book. I would have gaven it five stars if the editing had been better. Men will enjoy this book also. There is quite a bit of sex in this book, some pornography, some sexual abuse of a child, violence and a rather mild murder description. Drug use and corrupt cops. This book is about a retired cop, helping out a friend of his daughter in law. The ending was fine. All the loose ends were taken care of. I liked the conclusion because it was like life, not everything can be happily ever after. For ages 18 and up. For readers of both sexes, but this is not romantic in any way. AD
