Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Meredith Kiger
One of six in the "All About Fall" series, this colorful book uses large photos, minimal text, and repetition of words and phrases to support emergent readers. The text discusses seasonal changes such as scarecrows appearing in farmers' fields and other uses that scarecrows have come to represent. Pumpkins, which are also another part of fall, make great heads for scarecrows as the cover of the book clearly shows. They can also be used to make jack-o-lantern's for Halloween, one of the favorite holidays for young children. The book is all about the concept of changing seasons which supports National Science Foundation standards for early elementary school earth and life science studies. A glossary, an index, word count, and sources for further study plus safe Internet sites are included. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger, Ph.D.
