The True Face of Love
Ruth's grandmother lives in the forest, banished there for the "evil" that the townsfolk believed she practiced. But if studying the stars, learning about nature, and dreaming of flying is evil, then Ruth is guilty of it too. Whenever Ruth took food and supplies to her grandmother, she would sit with the old woman for hours, listening and learning.

The Scarlet Moon is a wonderful book and I would recommend it to young women who like to hear of love and romance with a twist. The book begins with Ruth, the protagonist of the book, skipping along on her way to her grandmother's house with her elder brother when they are confronted with a wolf. The wolf attacks Ruth and Ruth's brother tries to kill the beast. While the wolf is attacking, Ruth looks into its eyes and notices that they are not the yellow she has seen before, but a piercing green that she will never forget, "I never knew wolves had green eyes, she thought before darkness claimed her."
This book is a different rendition of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. The story continues with Ruth becoming a woman and her brother going off to fight in the Crusades. She is left to help her father with the shop and becomes a skilled blacksmith. She does have a grandmother lives in the nearby woods. Her grandmother is said to be a witch that was banished from the village. Ruth goes there often to learn from her and see what new things she has conjured up. She then meets William, Earl of Lauton. With this, she falls in love and things began to happen.
I feel that this book has many strengths. I feel that the writing was so phenomenal, I didn't want to put it down. Granted, there were times where I thought the book was dragging, but it picked up and I wanted to read on. I did feel like the love part toward the end of the book seem to be a little strange. William and Ruth were in an embrace and Ruth had a dagger between them. As they held tighter and tighter to one another, the dagger dug into Ruth, "She could feel the blade cutting yet deeper into her as he crushed her tighter, but it didn't matter." I found it strange that she didn't care that the dagger was drawing blood. The only thing, I think, that she was thinking was about the next time he would kiss her. Love is blinding, or deadly.
In the end, I would read this book again and again. I also think that I would read other books that Debbie Viguie, the author, has written because this one left me feeling happy and I love books that make people feel this way.

I've recently finished all of the books and so I've decided to review each of them in the following categories: story, characters, and my final comments. (Warning: Spoiler Alert on this whole review) (Story): An interesting take on "Little Red Riding Hood" is set during the third Crusade. Fifteen-year old Ruth lives with her blacksmith father, Jacob, in a small village in twelfth-century England. Because her older brother Stephen is serving in the Crusades, she has become his apprentice. Not only that, she also takes supplies weekly to her grandmother who lives in the back of the woods, having been sent there by the villagers because they thought she practiced witchcraft. But this is hard for Ruth, because when she was little, she was attacked by a wolf in the woods, now she's afraid whenever she goes there. Later on, a nobleman named William enters the village, seeking new horseshoes from Jacob. When Ruth meets him, she is intimidated by him, but little does she know that William hides a dark secret. Once again, I loved Viguie's storytelling style. She made it seem for me like I was actually there and the forest actually scared me. It was perfect for the setting of the book. (Characters): The main character, Ruth, is unlike any Red Riding Hood I've read about. During the nine years her brother was gone, she's helped her father make swords and horseshoes, and has even learned how to fight. But she has her fear of the woods as well, which I thought made her a relatable character. In a twist on the story, the wolf, or werewolf, William, becomes her love-interest. I could tell he was suffering from the curse that wasn't his fault, and he loved Ruth enough to let her know that she would be safer without him. Ruth's grandmother, Giselle, is also an interesting, likable character. The main thing she does is study nature and teaches Ruth what she knows. But even though she's old, she has a stature to be reckoned with. (Final Comments): I loved this medieval-style retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" and, in fact, I wish it were longer. Great for anyone who loves the story or the time period.

The love between the characters is more real and very dark. I suggest this book for all teen girls who are looking for a short romance novel.

I very much wanted to read this book throughout, but I could not bring myself to finish it. I felt disgusted with it and thought that the characters did not fall for one another for love, but lust. I love the Once Upon a Time series and recommend Water Song, Snow, Midnight Pearls and The Crimson Thread, but not this particular book.

Sadly, I only rate this 4 stars. While it got better the farther you read into the book, many things were obvious and the author's writing was very crontradicting. It was repetitive in some places and felt child like and incomplete in others. I'm not dissapointed in buying the book, I love having it for my collection of the Once Upon a Time Series. Though it was still good, I think that she could have done more with it.

I loved the concept of rearranging a classic fairy tale like little red riding hood that consisted of no romance, and added romance. I loved this story, i am not fond of other retelling they always seem so pityful with the damsel in distress and such things. But in scarlet moon the main character was all but in distress she was a strong girl. I would love to see other works by this writer and maybe a few in first person.

I used to hate the story of Little Red Riding Hood and how she just got eaten up at the end of it. But Scarlet Moon made all of that change. I love the twists in the plot and the structure of the story.If you love fairy tales, or retold fairy tales this is an absolute must read book. I've changed my mind about hating Little Red Riding hood, when now I actually love it!

This book was simply fantastic! I thought the beginning was intriuging, the middle was great, and the ending was satisfying. Trust me, this book won't disappoint you!

i loved this book so much all my friends had to read it and all they say is how great it is. I love the way Viguie keeps William a mystery but at the same time he takes your breath away. Ruth is my idol, she is strong brave and she goes throught so much and yet she turns out alright. Viguie is a talented righter.

~Scarlet Moon~ I really enjoyed this book! It was exciting and suspenseful from beginning to end! Usually I don't really like first chapters in ANY book! But this one was great!! I loved the Grandmother! she cracked me up! The plot was an exciting -and romantic- twist on little red ridding hood. You would think it to be stupid, but Viguie did an excellent job on elaborating the basic story. The last few chapters i was (literally) on the edge of my seat! I highly recommend this book!

Scarlet Moon was FANTASTIC!!! i started reading Once Upon a Time books because my best friend introduced them to me and i kept looking for more. this book is written very well and the love is just so complete. you feel as if you are the one who is in love. you feel the hurt and want to keep reading just to know what happens. i recommend this to all romance and a little action lovers. you will love this book.

I've never been one for the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood' but this was totally awesome. I liked Debbie Viguie's 'Midnight Pearls' and so I thought I might like this one as well. The only problem? It was short, maybe to short for how much I liked it, and so it ended way to soon!

The story in this book overall is nice, but it suffers from vague writing. I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't so slapdash and insubstantial. I only paid 2 or 3 dollars for "Beastly: Lindy's Diary" and it was fifty pages longer and a much better story. This book is something to read when you have little time and can't spare much attention. It's a very cute little book.
