I purchased this CD because I am a big fan of Rex Smith. However, I was so happy to discover that the whole musical is delightful! I loved the songs - especially "Where's the girl" performed by Rex. I wish I had seen it on Broadway!!

The Scarlet Pimpernel is, despite what reviewers have said (please ignore the AMG review!) an excellent show that is exactly what it is designed to be; entertainng, uplifting, and a raucously funny good time. This recording is a good representation of how the show appeared after the revisions and cast changes. While the show is overall a better production for the changes, the OBC is a better disc, if only because of Terrence Mann's impecable performance as Chauvelin and the deleted tracks, some of which are truly beautiful. The one element that shines on both this CD and the OBC is the glorious and moving performance of Douglas Sills as Sir Percival Blakeney/the Scarlet Pimpernel. While I prefer the OBC, this CD is still an excellent recording of a great show.

If you saw the second Broadway production (as I did) or the tour of this show than this is the disk for you. While Rex Smith's amazing on stage performace doesn't translate as well onto disk as Terrance Mann's, this disk includes one of the most moving musical theatre songs I have ever heard, I'll Forget You. I own both the OBC and the Encore recording, and I have to say that I listen to the Encore recording more, simply because of this song. I will admit thought that I am glad that I own both disks. However, you can't go wrong with either recording, due to Doug Sill's AMAZING performance of Percy. This man has the most wonderful voice!

I agree with the college student, and no one can beat Terrence Mann, I'm sorry but nuy the OBC recording because there is no better Chauvelin than him!!!

I own this album and the OBC album. Its great to have both because you get Terrence Mann's swoon-worthy rendition of "Where's the girl?" on the OBC and you get Rex Smith's knock-your-socks-off version of "Falcon in the dive" on the encore. Both Rachel York and Christine Andreas were amazing as Marguerite and Douglas Sills is just "wow" anyway. No musical theatre collection is complete without these albums and if you sing show tunes then these will present a fun challenge. By the way, I've also seen the show...Amazing! Frank Wildhorn is one of the best composers around.

The Scarlet Pimpernel is the Happy version of the French Revolution the oposite of Les Miserables. I believe that every fan of Renaissance, Jazz, classic, marches, and show tunes would like this music. I have made it a part of my collection as well as Stephen Sondhiem's Sunday In the Park With George.

I just think that this is a wonderful show. Both recordings are great, even if the original Chauvlin was better in OCR. It really is hard to say which recording I like better, although I think i'll have to go with this one as it was the version I heard originally, and you cannot beat ''I'll Forget You''. Wonderful female ballad.
