Overview

Trenton Hiser is an aspiring teenager filmmaker. He is intent on following his uncle, a Hollywood director, down the exciting path of creating a television documentary about a female race car driver and her Scarlet Thunder team. During filming, several unfortunate mistakes delay their project, threatening their ability to complete it on time. Readers will wonder whether Trenton and his uncle will crash and burn or race to the finish line? Brouwer includes subtle descriptions about race car driving so those new to the sport can understand the action-packed scenes. Some of the filming-related conflict is a bit far-fetched and unrealistic, but it makes for a fun read. The target audience and the age of the characters creates a slight disconnect; thus, the information discussed may not appeal to the average middle grader. Still, this is a sure choice for young adult reluctant readers. This short, high-interest narrative novel contains a subtle Christian theme and is part of the "Orca Sports" series. In a quick movement, he filled my viewfinder completely. Before I could figure out what had happened, he had grabbed me by the shoulders. He pulled a ballpoint pen from his pocket and stuck the sharp end of it against my throat.

It hurt. Bad. I wondered if I was bleeding. If he pushed any harder, the pen could burst through my windpipe.

He continued, still sounding oddly casual, "Like I said. When I take this kid's camera and walk out of here with the videocassette, there is definitely nothing you can prove."
