Claudia Ross (Worcester, MA) is coordinator of the Chinese language program at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and has 20 years' experience teaching Chinese as a second language. She received her Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Michigan.

This book seems to be a good reference, but I don't recommend the nook version. Many of the Pinyin vowels where the tone is indicated are showing up as empty squares rather than proper pinyin. If you have studied Chinese for a while, you may be able to determine the correct word, but it isn't easy.
