Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Della A. Yannuzzi
The new Scholastic Almanac is filled with fascinating facts and statistics on all kinds of topics. It is a valuable research tool for the upper middle grades, high school, and adults. If a reader wants to know quick facts about the United States, the world, plants, animals, science, math or other topics, they are likely to be found in this book. There are plenty of maps, including the countries of the world, continents, and North America. Ever wondered why certain holidays are celebrated or what certain geographical terms mean? Need some quick information about polygons or geometry? Or ever wonder what is filling up American landfills? This book of over 300 pages can inform and entertain interested readers for a few hours at a time. The information is tightly compacted and can be skimmed or poured over. Illustrations are numerous and diversified, filling pages with photographs, graphs, maps, and lists. Readers may never need or want all the information in this book, unless one is going to become a contestant on the game show, Jeopardy. But knowing the capitals of the 50 states, or the world's 5 deepest oceans and seas might be enough to ace a test. It is up to readers to decide how they want to use this book, but whatever it is, there is plenty of information for everyone to enjoy. Reviewer: Della A. Yannuzzi

    Love!

Even though this book is intended for kids, I've been purchasing it for several years now. It's updated annually. And it's a fast way to find out all the information you learned as a kid, but quickly forgot...without having to stare at a computer screen.
