Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
This reference book contains loads of information about world records reached in a wide range of subjects, including sports, human-made records, nature, popular culture, money and business, and science. There is even a section about records achieved only in the United States that details a record—some serious and some obscure—for each of the states. Did you know that the state with the oldest theme park is Connecticut or that Delaware is the state with the largest pumpkin-throwing contest? Each page includes both a paragraph that explains interesting statistics and a full-color photograph, as well as a graph that compares that record with others that are close to it. For example, the world's largest island, Greenland, is compared with the next four largest islands. A bonus section at the end of the book called "Wild Wacky and Amazing Facts" contains items such as how much money is spent on bubble gum in North America every year. There's something for every interest and readers should enjoy exploring these fascinating facts. A table of contents and an index are included. Reviewer: Vicki Foote

The SCHOLASTIC BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS is back, this time with new and updated records for 2008.

This interesting and resourceful reference guide is divided into seven main categories:

Sports Records
Human-Made Records
Nature Records
Popular Culture Records
Money and Business Records
Science Records
U.S. Records

Filled with both interesting (the world's fastest land bird -- the ostrich) and obscure (the country that drinks the most bottled water -- Italy), there's something here for everyone.

This would make a great addition for home or school libraries. Highly recommended!
