Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristen Klotz
The classic tale of Cinderella is given a modern makeover in this compelling and relatable rendition by Meister. Cindy receives text messages from her stepmother and is overwhelmed by the demands of her stepsisters when a letter arrives in the mail about Prince Edwin’s dance contest. The winner of the dance contest will have the opportunity to be Prince Edwin’s dance partner at the Royal Dance Academy! Despite a few obstacles, Cindy is visited by her Fairy Godmother who gives her both a magic makeover and a scooter. Cindy rocks the dance contest but the magic runs out at midnight. Happily ever after comes when Prince Edwin finds Cindy and asks her to be his dance partner. It is nice that this rendition of Cinderella did not focus on ambiguous circumstances around falling in love. Young girls can feel empowered to be active as dancers. The modern aspects of technology, transportation, and clothing will entice audiences of girls in elementary school. Reviewer: Kristen Klotz; Ages 6 to 10.
