Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5-7-Chapters in this slim series entry focus on the history of school violence, bullying and harassment, the societal factors that contribute to "the making of a school shooter," and prevention. Situations featuring fictional middle-school students alternate with clear, factual information presented in a workmanlike style. Quotes and statistics appear throughout, and bulleted lists note signs of depression and extreme emotional stress, characteristics of a bully, and factors that increase the risk of someone becoming violent. Sources for the graphs and charts are cited; however, no source notes appear. Libraries needing up-to-date information may want to consider this book. Other titles covering this subject for slightly older students include Anna Kreiner's Everything You Need to Know about School Violence (Rosen, 2000), Jeff P. Jones's School Violence (Lucent, 2000), and Francha Roff Menhard's School Violence (Enslow, 2000).-Jennifer Ralston, Harford County Public Library, Belcamp, MD Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
