Overview

A lively and comprehensive history of public education in the United States, School tells the sweeping, turbulent, and always inspiring story of a great American experiment. Through historical essays by esteemed scholars of education James D. Anderson, Larry Cuban, Carl F. Kaestle, Diane Ravitch, and David Tyack, as well as vivid testimony and historie photographs, it shows how the history of American schools in many ways mirrors the history of American democracy. School is the companion book to the acclaimed PBS documentary that was praised by The New York Times for its "remarkable thoroughness and intellectual energy." Winner of a Silver Hugo Award from the Chicago International Television Competition.

Look at the subject first. This is one of kind book on Public Education in The US. It tells the story on how it got started, the present, and the future of it. The story was great and the pictures were great I'm glad read this because its never too late to learn things about our schools. This book souldn't be under education it should under history because I feel everyone should read, wheter public, catholic, private, or home school.
