Children's Literature - Sarah RaymondWhen Alden family friend Max declares that nothing exciting ever happens on Port Elizabeth Island, the children take his comment as a challenge, and the family sets out to spend some time there. Upon arriving at the small, extremely isolated island they quickly learn that all is not right. The people of the island, who are generally standoffish with tourists or strangers, are extremely excited for the arrival of The Money Man. So-called because he gave the children ten dollars in exchange for an old quarter, he is returning to trade with the people of the island. The Aldens are immediately suspicious of this Money Man, and set about uncovering his secrets. This is a cute little story with enough mystery to keep the reader wanting to read on and learn more about what is happening on the island. The simple pictures scattered throughout the story help readers to visualize the characters and the events while still leaving room for the imagination. Part of "The Boxcar Children" series.
