    Amazing

An excellent basic reference for the entire history of science, thoroughly illustrated. I bought it for my middle-school kids as an introduction to any subject area, but find I'm reading it myself cover-to-cover to brush up on the details and help place discoveries and technological innovations into historical context. Comprehensible to humanities types like me, but my friend with a Ph. D. in physics also had trouble putting it down. A worthwhile educational investment, as are all DK books I've laid hands on.

    Gorgeous book

This is a glorious book for the sophisticated science reader and his/her family. It's engrossing and can just be leafed through with great pleasure. The illustrations are beautiful and the information is light enough yet serious enough for all readers.
